About
Avila Beach Golf Resort is located right along the bay, giving it a scenic setting that has made it the most well known of the Central Coast golf courses. The layout offers plenty of variety with a hilly front nine that features small, often elevated, greens that are surrounded by oak-lined valleys and a back nine that that is routed across a tidal estuary. Golfers should be prepared for forced carries over water and multi-tiered greens on the backside. At first the course may seem short, but thanks to the dramatic elevation changes and numerous other challenges, it will begin to feel much longer. There are several severe doglegs throughout as well as tight approaches. Avila Beach Golf Resort is not a layout where you can easily "grip it and rip it." Rather, accuracy and good course-management are rewarded.

Avila Resort (if it only lived up to the resort moniker)
Avila Beach, the hotel, and clubhouse area are top notch. However, the course has not kept pace. Greens are one of the few aspects that live up to the expectations. The tee boxes may be the worst of any of the courses in the San Luis Obispo area. They're chunky. bumpy, and with the exception of hole one, are entirely unacceptable. Tee box markers, hole signs, and ball washers have not been attended to in decades. Would never pay whatever the regular green fees are. The $18=$20 range would "fit the bill in my opinion.
Fun & enjoyable
Overall good conditions…greens were very good. Perimeter of the course a little trashy. Competed round a little over 3 hours.
The views and some cool regulars
Certain aspects of a course are just that, and I struggle to hit good shots (hard, packed down fairways near the green on every hole, very fast, undulating greens, etc); this course was tough on me so I rated it lower, but I liked the water features, one hole that had a funny gap to hit it through. A good golfer could tear this up until the putter, and then it’s touch/feel.
Most bang for your buck
Absolutlely love the weather in Avila!! This course is very affordable...so for the weekend warrior this is the perfect course. The staff was very friendly, drinks cold, and greens were in great shape. Only knock is bunkers were muddy, but aside from that I'll go back everytime i'm in Avila.

Great time with friends. The greens were a bit sketchy but fairways were fine.

This was the best I've seen the course in 2 years. Still needs lots of work.
