Avila Beach Golf Resort

About
Avila Beach Golf Resort is located right along the bay, giving it a scenic setting that has made it the most well known of the Central Coast golf courses. The layout offers plenty of variety with a hilly front nine that features small, often elevated, greens that are surrounded by oak-lined valleys and a back nine that that is routed across a tidal estuary. Golfers should be prepared for forced carries over water and multi-tiered greens on the backside. At first the course may seem short, but thanks to the dramatic elevation changes and numerous other challenges, it will begin to feel much longer. There are several severe doglegs throughout as well as tight approaches. Avila Beach Golf Resort is not a layout where you can easily "grip it and rip it." Rather, accuracy and good course-management are rewarded.

This course is a disaster…
I’m not really sure where to start. Maybe the only positives: friendly staff and fairly healthy looking greens.
Although the greens looked healthy, they might’ve been rolling at a 4. You could barely get the ball to the hole, even on downhill putts.
The fairways were mowed weeds. The only grass on the course were the tee boxes and greens.
No signs designating hole numbers or tee boxes. The layout and routing are awful, making the course virtually impossible to walk.
I’m not sure that the staff could do anything to improve this course. The course design is truly a disaster.
Lacking of everything!
Pro shop employee was unhelpful, rude and unfriendly
Course is in terrible shape!
Lack of repairs and upkeep was evident everywhere you looked.
First Time Fun!
We had a fun first visit! Holes were challenging, although the placement of the next T Box was sometimes challenging to find. We actually missed a couple of holes because we went to the T box next to the green we were exiting. But had a good time, so no big deal. Had fun.
Beautiful and fun
Okay, I get it that some people criticize this course because the condition is a little rough, but we loved it. The course is very green, hardly no brown areas, and surrounded by a lovely countryside with trees, mountains, and rivers. The layout is beautiful and the atmosphere warms the heart. We will definitely play here again whenever we stay here at the resort.
Old and Tired
The course needs a lot of work. Tee boxes and fairways are in bad shape. There are a couple of bridges that are washed out and the cart paths will jar your kidneys. They are horrible.
The location is prime, but somebody needs to invest some money and hardwork to get this place back to its heyday. Until then, I will not go back.
Meh
Looks like it could be nice or maybe used to be. But I will be trying another course next visit
Needs help
Strange front nine layout with a.lot of residual damage from previous storms
Avila Beach Excels
Played this course 5 times recently, Jan 13, 17, 21, 22 & 23. Each time I found it very challenging...make a mistake and you're going to pay for it, probably even gong to cost you a double. The greens are super fast, in good shape and sometimes quite tricky. You need to play here at least once to have the best idea about where to miss and sometimes which club to hit to properly account for the numerous elevation changes. The venue is picturesque and on one round an egret allowed me to get and remain quite close to it. Awesome.
It’s getting better!
Avila has gotten better! Friendly staff and the course is in great condition. Especially for the price!
Avila's Jewl
Always enjoy playing this course. Though I've played everytime on NYR's day, it has limited staff. The greens are full of leafs and debriss so bring your towel or a leaf blower.
Some holes under repairs and the paths are pretty bumpy. It's a tough course, specially back 9.
Sorry to say but the course was not maintained at all. Also will get lost which course is at where direction was not there to next course .
