Avila Beach Golf Resort

About
Avila Beach Golf Resort is located right along the bay, giving it a scenic setting that has made it the most well known of the Central Coast golf courses. The layout offers plenty of variety with a hilly front nine that features small, often elevated, greens that are surrounded by oak-lined valleys and a back nine that that is routed across a tidal estuary. Golfers should be prepared for forced carries over water and multi-tiered greens on the backside. At first the course may seem short, but thanks to the dramatic elevation changes and numerous other challenges, it will begin to feel much longer. There are several severe doglegs throughout as well as tight approaches. Avila Beach Golf Resort is not a layout where you can easily "grip it and rip it." Rather, accuracy and good course-management are rewarded.

I have played this course for over 30 years and it is so run down poor condition I will not play it again.
This course is not marked very well
I started on back 9 at Hole 10, nobody there to assist hike not marked, then directions to hole 12 not marked, had to cross a bridge that the public used with several pedestrians crossing and had to wait and avoid them. Could not easily navigate to each hole, dirt pathway only, very poorly kept up, bounced all over, gofer and squirrel holes everywhere. Hole 6 was not marked either. Nobody at the golf cart return area at 5pm and I left my Callaway Jaws 58 degree Sand Wedge on hole 9 and called 2 days later. Staff said it was probably gone and didn't seem to care. I called about my club next week and staff had no idea about who I was even after I gave my name and number and still brushed me off. Probably won't get it back. Staff clearly doesn't check their course for items and I felt the owner needs to up keep their course better. If you have never been to this course, good luck navigating how to get to tee box of each hole!
Great golf course
Avila beach golf course is very challenging course. The back nine is the most difficult part of the course because of all water hazards that are in play. Over all my husband and his friends had a great time playing
New to me
Always wanted to play here. Was not disappointed. Had an absolutely fabulous lunch and tee the ball up. Challenging course, stay left as the creek is a ball magnet, just saying. The front will challenge you and the back more relaxed. Nice and cool with photo opts.
First visit
Been wanting to play this course for some time. Finally got the chance., interesting layout. The staff is great and bring an appetite and sample the grill. Keep it in the fairway for best results.
Disappointing
The course is in a gorgeous spot, and could be fabulous. However, it is in terrible shape. Cart paths are dangerously in need of repair, greens have different types of grass, and fairways are patchy at best. For a first time player, really hard to know where to go. Signage sparse. We were so disappointed with the course.
Neglect at its best
The staff from the clubhouse to the restaurant to the starter were very friendly however the course conditions are embarrassing. Talk on the fairway has it that the owner is not a golfer but a mega millionaire who has no desire to invest in getting the coursei in shape but is waiting instead for approval to develop condos and build a new course around them. Bumpy grerens,, bunkers filled with weeds,, plants and rocks and multiple bridges in disrepair are only some of the surprises awaiting you. This course has lots of potential. And zero love.
Greens and tees good fairways ☹️
This course can be fun to play as there are some interesting holes and layout. Typically the weather is pretty good and for some reason Avila Beach area gets more sun than Pismo and parts of the. Coast. The greens are in pretty good shape and the perimeters around the greens are green and cut well. However, the fairways are a lot to be desired as they are riddled with golfer holes and not much watering. Is done on this course nor does it seem like the Fairways are fertilized. But a decent green fee with the Golfnow hot deal. So I would only recommend to golfers that just want to get out and play and recognize the fairways are gonna be pretty hard and dry not much good green grass to hit off of
In Terrible Condition
Needs lots of work!! Cart paths, fairways were terrible!! Very very sad. It could be an amazing course in such a beautiful beach town.
