Avila Beach Golf Resort
About
Avila Beach Golf Resort is located right along the bay, giving it a scenic setting that has made it the most well known of the Central Coast golf courses. The layout offers plenty of variety with a hilly front nine that features small, often elevated, greens that are surrounded by oak-lined valleys and a back nine that that is routed across a tidal estuary. Golfers should be prepared for forced carries over water and multi-tiered greens on the backside. At first the course may seem short, but thanks to the dramatic elevation changes and numerous other challenges, it will begin to feel much longer. There are several severe doglegs throughout as well as tight approaches. Avila Beach Golf Resort is not a layout where you can easily "grip it and rip it." Rather, accuracy and good course-management are rewarded.

Troy Camp
The Staff was awesome the Starter especially was friendly, he made an effort to put me on the course ahead of my tee time since I was playing alone. The only think that I didn't like was the driving range, hitting off mats with no really distance markers to give you an idea of how you were hitting your clubs distance wise, and the narrow view of area to hit, also no way to hit your driver before you start a round is weird.
Fairways are terrible
Fairways are all dead grass/dirt. Don't waste your money, the course does not look like the photos posted.
So much potential
Washed away or dilapidated bridges.
Detours that require 4 wheel drive to maneuver.
Dried fairways
Very poorly maintained driving range
Not recomand to play
The course is not taken care of for a long time not only green but also bunkers and even fairways. Some courses were overlayed which could lead us in dangerous conditions. It was a horrible experience.
What a fun and challenging day!
I have been wanting to play this course for sometime and finally had the opportunity to play with a friend. We had delicious lunch at Mulligan’s and then played the full 18 holes. The first nine were quite a challenge for us with the plateau greens. We found the second nine to be a bit more in our range of play. The location and scenery are marvelous! We certainly plan to play Avila again!
Thank you so much for the great review. We are glad you had an incredible time, and we hope to see you again soon! Thanks for choosing Avila Beach Golf Resort.
Greens need work
Some of the greens had divots built in and had areas that look like a tee box. But overall the speed of greens was good. Weather and location is plenty of reason to play this course. It’s fun. Staff is nice. Pace of play was slow, maybe the Marshall can speed it up. I’d play there again for a good price.
Hello, 13marino. Thank you for visiting us at Avila Beach Golf Resort. We appreciate your 4-star rating and review. We hope you join us for another round soon.
Could be absolutely amazing but…
Been wanting to play this course for years. Decided to finally do it while on vacation in Avila. We brought our spouses to make it a full day of fun. I’ll just leave a lot of the good and the bad below…
The Good:
Very friendly staff
Good food at Muligens
Nice sitting areas and pro shop
The bad:
Course is in dire need of some TLC.
Cart paths are atrocious
Greens were okay
Fairways were in bad shape
Lots of dead grass or hard dirt/dead grass
36 dollars for wife to spectate
Oberall I still had a good time but I won’t be returning to this course. If they poured some money into it then it would have the potential to be one of the nicest courses I’ve ever played. Unfortunately, it’s one of the worse courses I’ve played.
Thanks for taking the time to leave us a review. We see you rated the course 2-stars and are interested in learning what we can do to improve for your next visit.
We take customer feedback very seriously at our course. Please reach out to our team in the golf shop and tell us what's on your mind.
Unfortunately uncared for
Lots of dead fairway, very little direction (can be difficult to find the next tee box). Staff was friendly, and course layout is definitely fun. The lack of maintenance and care shows though, getting beat up by unpaved rutted out cart paths was not fun. Weather was gorgeous and we had a good time golfing, but we were backed up and the round took 6 hours.
This has potential to be the best course on the Central coast for casual golf, if they care to make the effort.
Interesting Layout, Not Much Else
Very friendly staff at the Pro Shop, the Bar/Restaurant, and the Marshal; apparently the Beverage Cart Gal was in training and accompanied by another employee on her first day; although she was friendly, seemed to lack basic skills such as not restocking beverages players on the course ask for (and which are available at the bar/restaurant). The course itself was underwhelming, almost all cart paths were gravel, several were under repair and unusable therefore sensing golfers on other paths to access tee boxes, sometimes in the line of tee boxes and putting golfers at risk of being hit. There were many holes in fairways that we stepped in coming very close to being injured this way. The greens were quite slow and several has significant areas under repair. A pleasant surprise was how soft the sand bunkers were, especially considering the state of the rest of the course.
The course layout was interesting, lots of water crossings, dog legs, and sweeling fairways. We would play again; but only using disciunted rates found online. Full price play is just not worth it. Lastly, the bar and restaurant is considerably overpriced.

Poor Grass
Was visiting a friend of mine for his birthday, and he mentioned that this course was supposed to be nice. It was not. Conditions were horrible, poorly maintained, and overall not what we expected.
Horrible upkeep and pace of play
Not worth the money, especially on weekends. Horrible pace of play with bad golfers constantly playing, along side of terrible upkeep. Not worth the money
Needs improvement
Played this course last fall and it was so dry! Thought we’d give it another try now in the spring! There was more grass but some holes were crazy to get to because of flood damage that needs to get corrected
Thank you so much for leaving us with your feedback. We value our customer experience, so your review is important to us. Please know the current conditions are by no means the standard we strive to achieve. We will continue to work towards a 5-star experience and we hope to see you back!

warning !!!!!!!!
the starter should have extended the courtesy to let us know the course was in horrendous condition. grass was cut in the fairways, but you could never find your ball. the course should have been closed. its a shame we drove such a long way only to be disappointed. we have been playing this course on occasion for 15 years. this was the absolutely the worst condition possible. when it rains this much and maintenance cant possibly keep up, close the course for a day or two. make it playable again. wasted green fee, wasted range balls, wasted gas to get to the course, wasted expensive day.
This course is in very poor condition. Needs lots of work.
