Avila Beach Golf Resort
About
Avila Beach Golf Resort is located right along the bay, giving it a scenic setting that has made it the most well known of the Central Coast golf courses. The layout offers plenty of variety with a hilly front nine that features small, often elevated, greens that are surrounded by oak-lined valleys and a back nine that that is routed across a tidal estuary. Golfers should be prepared for forced carries over water and multi-tiered greens on the backside. At first the course may seem short, but thanks to the dramatic elevation changes and numerous other challenges, it will begin to feel much longer. There are several severe doglegs throughout as well as tight approaches. Avila Beach Golf Resort is not a layout where you can easily "grip it and rip it." Rather, accuracy and good course-management are rewarded.

Maintenance Disaster
This course has been a shambles for decades now. And the new owner doesn't seem interested in ugrading much less maintaining the course. They don't seem to even mow the grass regularly or rake up all the leaves. The cart paths are never ending stream of pot holes. This is more obstacle couse than golf course and has become an embarassment to Avila Beach. Notice the 2 star rating for course conditions.
Just ok course
Back 9 got flooded so didn’t get to play. Supposedly better than front 9. Not worth of paying more 60ish so look for hot deal.
Awesome
I read some of the other reviews, and they may have been true at the time, but I had a blast. Great fairways, and the bunkers were legit.
Playing here again next time in pismo!
Best of the 3 I played on vacation... for some reason the locals don't agree
I played 3 different courses in the area over 4 days of vacation. Avila Beach was the best by far. Interesting course lay out with tight tee shots and some open fairways to rip at.Greens were in good shape and rolled true. We spoke to a number of locals that said avila was in poor condition and we shouldn't go.. they were dead wrong.. we plan on coming back in the summer.. if you're in the area.. play this track
Course in better condition than last year.
Avila Beach Golf Resort is a perfect setting...ocean views, cool breeze, and a course that winds around oak & sycamore tree covered hills. There are several areas (bridges & cart paths) that were damaged from last year's storms that need repair...if it takes as long as it did to refill the bunkers with sand then it will be a loooong time. They've added sand to the bunkers that had been dirt & rock for 5+ years...but they just added sand...the rocks are just below the surface. The resort's main focus is still events but the course is fun to play especially if you can get a good deal on GolfNow. I didn't bring my friends with me to play this course last winter, but I will this year because the fairways are green and there's sand in the bunkers.
Poor maintenance
Course is in a beautiful location but the fairways are terrible, the greens are sketchy and the sand traps are rocky. Would not recommend this course to play at this time!
Course in Poor Condition
Been a while since I’ve played there but I stopped going because of the poor conditions. The course never seemed to recover after the heavy rains last January. Fairways were choppy and the greens seemed dry or sick…maybe some kind of fungus killing the grass? I wouldn’t recommend the course even though it’s a beautiful location. Money is better spent at Black Lake or Paso Robles Country Club.
Course denied my Multiple Round Pass would not honor 1 yr limited
Purchased multiple round pass Hundreds of $$. Covid ran for almost two years and course would not honor as time frame of one year had passed since purchase, thinking of going to small claims court. We'll see what the Judge decides.
Not a customer friendly operation. So sad as the location is Beautiful. Stephen
Great place for a golf course
Beautiful place for a golf course. I like the lay out and it challenging; however, the course is in terrible condition.
I feel who ever owns the golf course puts no money in to it.
Won’t be playing there again. Not worth the money
They are working on the course so that’s a good thing but they have a long way to go
Maintenance
A beautiful course that has absolutely no maintenance at all.
Owner needs to sell it to someone who knows what they’re doing.
Been golfing there for several years and have never seen it in such terrible condition.
Won’t be back until I hear someone else owns it or they have new management.
Poor condition
This is a course we’ve always enjoyed playing. The fairways hardly had any grass, the bunkers had grass growing in them. We were very disappointed in the condition.
Very poor maintenance
Greens are good but the fairways are terrible
The cart paths are absolutely awful no
maintenance at all and in most cases impassable.
Nice layout, poor condition
The fairways aren’t in great condition, and neither are the greens. Since we last played here a year ago, two bridges have been taken out of commission so carts have to take roundabout routes to get from greens to the next tees. Still, it’s a picturesque layout and if you can get a deal online it’s worth it. The pro shop staff is good and the on-site bar/restaurant, Mulligans, is solid.
Awesome place
Under some repair right now, but still a great round.
Thank you for your feedback and understanding. We apologize for any inconvenience caused by the ongoing repairs. We appreciate your support and hope you had a great round of golf despite the situation.
Condition of course
Overall, the course is in a great location, and the staff is awesome. Nice bar/restaurant. The only problem we had was with the condition of the course. Bridges connecting a couple holes were broken down so we had to drive on dusty dirt paths. Some of the green and fairways had dead spots.
Thank you for taking the time to leave us a review. We appreciate your feedback and apologize for the issues you experienced with the condition of the course. We are working on improving these areas and hope to provide you with a better experience in the future.
Thank you for leaving us with your feedback. We value our customer experience, so your review is important to us. Please know the current conditions are by no means the standard we strive to achieve. We will continue to work towards a 5-star experience and we hope to see you back.
