This course used to be considered a hidden gem. Now, Oak Valley Golf Course in Beaumont is an off-the-beaten-path known reasonable joy. Stopping on the way from Los Angeles to Palm Springs for a golf detour is no fool's play. Not with the fast greens, dramatic elevation changes and swerving fairways available at Oak Valley in Beaumont.
A Lee Schmidt and Brian Curley design, Oak Valley is probably best known for greens that are anything but desert typical. Speed is the name of the game here, with a tap sometimes too much on a downhill putt.
Recognition does not travel that quickly. It took a decade for Oak Valley to get a four star rating from Golf Digest. Once it did, Beaumont suddenly became a golf stopping spot on the Palm Springs express. Now, you're considered a smart golfer if you linger on the way to Palm Springs.
"It's a nice getaway from the crowds in the desert, as well as some of the other, more populated golf areas," head pro Scott Arnold said. "It's almost like being in the country. No houses line the fairways. Each hole is different. And because of the way it's laid out, you often can't even see another hole from the one you're playing."

Oak Valley - Fun and Challenging
Noticeable effort has gone into course maintenance as tee boxes, fairways, and greens are all in good shape. Carts seem relatively new, and while they do have GPS it's not annoying on approach to greens or native areas. Course itself is a fun with each hole offering a different challenge of slope, undulations, tight fairways, well placed hazards, and target greens. The native habitat is scenic with several large flourishing ponds, mature natural tree-lines, views of the mountains, and the occasional wildlife that adds to the aesthetics. The range is grass and well maintained, there's ample putting area to warm up, but facility could use additional area to upgrade chipping area. The food is good and the staff is friendly. Very Good public course.
Great Day at Oak Valley
I really enjoyed Oak Valley GC, the course layout made for the right amount of challenging and fun round of golf. The course conditions were good, we were notified about the punched greens prior to the round on GolfNow and by the shop personnel, so that didn’t take away from our round as there was full transparency. It was my first round here and can’t wait to play it again. Also, their practice range was in good condition, I appreciate hitting off of real grass for truer feedback compared to mats.
Disappointed Amenities
My brother and I haven’t played here for 15 years. We were excited to see the course, but the amenities were weak. Overcooked breakfast, no humidor and very little merchandise. The course itself is nice and I would recommend it.

Course Condition
Greens, fairways, tees, and most bunkers, in excellent condition! Pace of play: under 4hrs; always makes for a fun round.
