This course used to be considered a hidden gem. Now, Oak Valley Golf Course in Beaumont is an off-the-beaten-path known reasonable joy. Stopping on the way from Los Angeles to Palm Springs for a golf detour is no fool's play. Not with the fast greens, dramatic elevation changes and swerving fairways available at Oak Valley in Beaumont.

A Lee Schmidt and Brian Curley design, Oak Valley is probably best known for greens that are anything but desert typical. Speed is the name of the game here, with a tap sometimes too much on a downhill putt.

Recognition does not travel that quickly. It took a decade for Oak Valley to get a four star rating from Golf Digest. Once it did, Beaumont suddenly became a golf stopping spot on the Palm Springs express. Now, you're considered a smart golfer if you linger on the way to Palm Springs.

"It's a nice getaway from the crowds in the desert, as well as some of the other, more populated golf areas," head pro Scott Arnold said. "It's almost like being in the country. No houses line the fairways. Each hole is different. And because of the way it's laid out, you often can't even see another hole from the one you're playing."

Disappointing

I've always considered this course as one of my favorites in the Inland Empire. Haven't played it, cause it's pricey.

I was very disappointed in the condition of the course. A lot of dry spots. The rough was really rough only because it wasn't taken care of.

Don't know if they are having money problems, but they told me they were booked for the day and it was the 2 or 3rd time I called to play but were booked.

I am really sad that they are letting the course gol

Always a pleasure

This course is always in good shape with very challenging greens and a nice layout. Went out at 11am and only saw one other golfer on the course all day. Fairways were in great shape and the greens are fast and true.

Course came Back

Saturday 11/04/17: I was joined by a local resident here in the back nine as I caught up with the groups in front. It was a breezy when I started about 11:45 and I expected the wind to pick up even more but instead the weather was even more calm which made for a real nice day.

What a difference since I was there last- the grass grew back and the rough are taller making it almost difficult to find the ball- you really have to keep an eye on it. The fairways are in good shape- running and not so much divots unfilled but nice and tightly mowed. The greens are so receptive, making it easier to get close (if I could only make shots- lol). The bunkers I was in were fine and the the teeing grounds were okay/ not so chewed up late in the weekend day- you’ll have to find a spot. I’m just glad the grass came back alive oh and the greens rolled nice.

Always a pleasure to play here... love it.

Great Course!

If you want to play a jewel of a course Oak Valley is it! Great layout, challenging but yet very fair! The mountainous view surrounding the course is a beauty to see. Just enough of everything you’d want in a golf course to keep your interest peaked. Greens were true. I’ve now played the course about 5-6 times and love it more with each time played. I highly recommend this wonderful course!

Beautiful, well groomed course. Some holes are definitely a challenge , water on back 9, lots of different elevations. We had a fun, tiring day.

A Good Place to Play

This course has always been good overall, however, its maintenance are starting to get more and more sloppy. The greens are okay, but it's too soft- too much watering for sure. It was fairly in good speed, but if a 7 iron's approach plugs on to the green, that's not good. The fairways are also seemingly over watered- mud balls never lie. The bunkers has crusty mix of dried mud and sand- that's not good either. The teeing grounds are just fine. I just wish this course does not let it go anymore... or go away all together.

Challenging course

This course features many elevation changes and unlevel lies, and greens that I found very difficult to read. The range is excellent, with grass tees. Unlike most courses in the Inland Empire, the traps have sufficient sand in them! I wouldn't recommend walking this course. There is quite a lot of distance between some of the holes. Great time. Great layout. Nice shape.

Second time around.

Couldn't resist the discounted rate due to aerification. Greens were punched on Monday & Tuesday the 23/24th. Reg rate is about $69 for Saturday morning. Paid $45. Course looked good. Enjoyed its layout. Wasn't busy. Pace of play was quick. Nobody on us. Houses far enough away!!!! Lakes look outstanding. Best in the area. Clear and blue. Almost paradise like. Good use of all clubs in bag. A must play. Had lunch. Decent food, reasonably priced. Nice range!!!!

Excellent and challenging

Superiior aechitecture, outstanding greens and a beautiful setting (except for a few holes along the freeway). Risk rewards are well balanced. Only crtitcism is that some of the greens have extreme contouring that allows for impossible pin placements.
