This course used to be considered a hidden gem. Now, Oak Valley Golf Course in Beaumont is an off-the-beaten-path known reasonable joy. Stopping on the way from Los Angeles to Palm Springs for a golf detour is no fool's play. Not with the fast greens, dramatic elevation changes and swerving fairways available at Oak Valley in Beaumont.

A Lee Schmidt and Brian Curley design, Oak Valley is probably best known for greens that are anything but desert typical. Speed is the name of the game here, with a tap sometimes too much on a downhill putt.

Recognition does not travel that quickly. It took a decade for Oak Valley to get a four star rating from Golf Digest. Once it did, Beaumont suddenly became a golf stopping spot on the Palm Springs express. Now, you're considered a smart golfer if you linger on the way to Palm Springs.

"It's a nice getaway from the crowds in the desert, as well as some of the other, more populated golf areas," head pro Scott Arnold said. "It's almost like being in the country. No houses line the fairways. Each hole is different. And because of the way it's laid out, you often can't even see another hole from the one you're playing."

First Time Playing

Incredible greens and rouuuuuuugh roughs.

First time playing here. I usually go out to Palm Springs, but wanted to try a local course this time. The front nine is right next to the highway, so it’s noisy. Doesn’t really bother me much, but might for some people.

Staff was friendly when I arrived and allowed me to play early and by myself instead of pairing with another player(s). Always thankful when they’re willing to do that.

The tee boxes weren’t bad, the fairways are great, and the greens were MINT. Absolutely beautiful greens, and not difficult. If you like putting straight, this is the course for you. However, I lost so many balls today because of you get in the rough, there’s no finding them. There are like 17,000 gopher holes and so many trees and bushes with shadows making it extremely difficult to find anything. There is only very slight fairway bending, so if you like to play off a slice you’ll have difficulty here as the fairways are narrow and straight.

The back nine was more beautiful that the front, because it introduced several water holes which always give the vibes.

All in all, I’d come back, but I’d wait for a deal because their peak rate is more than some PGA courses in the desert.

TGIF Golf

Nothing like a Friday golf morning! The course was in decent shape and play was just over four hours for 18 holes. The greens were in good condition and the overall course presented a good challenge! Look forward to playing this course again!

Pace of play

Despite a Ranger out on the course, the pace of play was awful. It was nearly 5.5 hours for my round. Totally unacceptable. Also if you have a handicap less than 18, please do yourself and other players a favor, play somewhere else.

Course is not mowed!

If you’re not in the fairway, you won’t find your ball. Just off fairway or near bunkers, ball is buried in grass, so basically 2 feet off the fairway, you won’t find your ball ir will be looking for it it forever when it’s right in front you

Nice course to play

Played many times but had to comment this time that they really need a marshall to govern play. We had a threesome in front and they played horribly slow for the front 9 that even my wife was talking smack about them and she’s only been playing a few years. They played from the blues and a few time they were looking for their balls by the red tees. They funny party they got together with the threesome in front of them so now we had a six some but they actually played faster as I think peer pressure not to take look for ball for 10 minutes helped. Overall I enjoy playing here, just found it humerus seeing 6 out there.

Fun and challenging

I liked this course, the length, the beautiful surroundings and the challenge, however as several other reviewers had mentioned, if you miss the fairways or the green, it’s a possibility that you’ll your ball. I had a few shots were I was just off the fairway and knew about where my my ball landed but ended up not finding my ball. Can these areas get cut a little lower? It could speed up play( which wasn’t a problem for me on the day I played) but it was frustrating having to search for my ball several times.

I will play here again and recommend this course although it does need some maintenance

Oak Valley beautiful golf course

Me and my wife golfed Oak Valley for the first time very impressed. We are both average golfers and enjoyed a good round. Golf course was in very good shape fairway cut and greens very fast. Some challenging holes fairways narrow keeper down the middle and you do fine. Lots of up and down on holes with beautiful trees and scenery on many holes. One of the nicest golf courses we played on in the area at very reasonable rates.
