Steele Canyon Golf Club - Canyon/Ranch

We got paired up with two members, who where extremely friendly and helped us navigate the course.

The course was dry, understandably though as the region was in a drought.

The greens where super-tough but I was still able to shoot in the low 70's - Some short par 3's and 5's that can be easy birdies.

Enjoyed the course - Staff are great but some of the patrons are fairly rude. glad our pairing went well.

Have not been out there for a number of years, course is in very good shape, and as challenging as it gets!

Course has three seperate nine holes. We played meadow for the front nine and liked it a lot. Had some really cool elevated tee boxes. The back nine was ranch and wasn't as cool I thought but was still nice.
When it came to approach shots the greens are pretty tricky. The rough was fairly easy to get out of and bunkers were maintained well. Definitely a smart play kind of course

The only negative was we didn't see the cart girl the entire time so no beer and food during the round was a real bummer.

Friendly staffs, great challenging course that will definitely
required you to use all your clubs and talents to play well. Fortunately there are several tee boxes to chose.

At these prices, there should be GPS on the golf carts. There were too many brown spots on the fairways.

To me, this is the best course in East County San Diego. It's appropriately challenging, offers choices of 9 holes based on your abilities, and the greens are super true. I love Steele Canyon. You appreciate it even more when you're on the hole that borders Cottonwood Golf Course. You look over and thank the lord you're not playing over there!

This is such a great course if you want a real challenge. Always well maintained and really nice greens. A rare thing for San Diego courses is sandy bunkers and Steele Canyon has them. This course has everything - water, some elevation, long par 4s, tight, split fairways and semi-blind tee shots. Be prepared to lose a few balls and have a few penalty strokes added to your score! This course has a way of ripping your heart out just when you feel like you are getting on top of it. If you are looking for a course you can score on ... this may not be it, but if you are looking for a really nice course at reasonable value (esp the $59 rates they sometimes offer on an early Sunday morning) that will challenge you - well you found it.

It's just ok, staff could use a customer service coach!

I've played all 3 9's in the past & after this previous round, the 2 to play are the ranch & canyon coarses. I played the meadow & canyon 9's & definetly enjoyed the canyon better b/c of it's upkeep & elevated t boxes. Most of the t boxes on the meadow coarse need some attention; fairways are decent for the time of season & all the greens are in great shape & roll true but a bit slower than the practice greens. The coarse should allow you to play a par 71 & not a 70 if requested.

Steele Canyon is a nice course. We played Ranch/Meadow and the course was in nice shape. The only negative was that several of the holes were cart path only, but other than that it was a fun day.

Good course to play 18 holes,
but there is no GPS.

Played Sunday 7/14/13, found a great deal on golfnow.com. The staff there was one I've the best I've ever dealt with, 5 stars for sure! Course conditions were great, some pot marks on greens but other than that they rolled very true. Played the ranch/ canyon combo and loved the layout, very challenging even from the whites. Pace of play was good, finished in under 4 1/2 hours. Perfect day of golf.

This course has some of the best, unblemished greens in SD county. The staff are phenomenal and the facilities are adequate. Biggest drawback to this course is that regardless of which of the three nines you play, the course is built upon, in, and around mountanous canyons. If you like mountain golf, this is your baby. All do respect to Gary Player, but this golf course does not provide a realistic test of overall golf ability. Rather, you are forced to depend upon lucky breaks (or more appropriately, being punished for a well struck ball that unfortunately careens off a well placed rock, or canyonesque shrub. Only precise shot makers should visit this facility as all others will not have an enjoyable round.

This course has lots of views. Several elevated tee boxes that are fun to tee off from. It's peaceful because of the location. The greens didn't seem to break too hard most of the time, which suits me just fine! A challenging course but you can score well on a good day.

The course was Pristine, Greens were slow and a little sandy but in great condition.

I had heard this course was nice, so I thought I would see for myself. I am glad I did. Nice variety, forced carries, elevation changes, lakes, split fairways, etc. the price is a little steep, but sometimes you can find a deal on Golfnow. Some of the holes reminded me of other local courses.

I played this course mid summer and was quite please. It was rather dry due to the season but gets the benefit of the doubt due to the heat and lack of rain. The Canyon and Ranch courses provide great views from elevated tees and provide a number of challenging tee shots. My only real complaint is the green a were really sandy which cause the ball to slide and hop off the club. Again that could just be a seasonal thing

Greens were recently aerated so putting difficult otherwise would be great to play again

Ranch 9 hole was being aerated but we only found out after pulling up to the 1st green. We were never notified upon booking the tee time nor when we checked in with the starter. This place is typically in top shape but there were burned out areas on the fairways and the fact that no one told us of the aeration played a hand in me ranking a 3. In the future, it would be great if you told your patrons of the course conditions as I recommend your course all the time to friends both in and out of town.
