Steele Canyon Golf Club - Ranch/Vineyard

About
Gary Player designed the 27 championship holes at Steele Canyon Golf Club in Jamul. The holes are divided into three unique nines that are played in different 18-hole combinations. The nines, called Canyon, Vineyard, and Ranch, each offer a different character but they are equally challenging. On the Ranch/Vineyard Course, golfers will be playing alongside free-roaming cattle that wander across the grassy meadows. There are a few elevation changes but they are not as dramatic as on the Canyon nine. Water hazards come into play several times and there are strategically placed bunkers to contend with as well. The third hole on the Ranch nine is the signature hole at Steele Canyon. This tricky par 4 plays from an elevated tee that sits 175 feet above the fairway. It is made even tougher by the prevailing winds that blow from left to right.

Steele Canyon
What a beautiful course. I only have two bad things to say. Bachelor party slowed pace of play (understandable, after he marries he won’t be able to golf much anymore) and tee box set up for 2 of the starts are right next to each other confused us. Greens were fast and accurate. Tee boxes were mostly flat. Staff was great.
Greens are in need of help!
There are so many ball marks on the greens, like too many to even count, which really affects putting. Why are golfers not bothering to fix their ball marks? Not fixing your ball marks is so rude. For such an amazing course~ this was sad to see.
Challenging with great views
From first tee I knew it was going to be a fun round. Had the opportunity to get a round in and this course did not disappoint with the many elevation changes to the speed of the greens. I will definitely like to get another round in now knowing layup distances and course layout. The pro-shop was real helpful in getting in and out with range facilities and some course condition information as this what my first time playing this course.
Awesome Track
Beautiful Track, Beautiful Weather, Beautiful Scenery, Awesome course conditions! The greens were darn near perfect. Friendly Staff
Really fun track
The course lay out is a lot of fun, challenging at some points without being brutal. Really nice views of desert mountains in east county San Diego and the staff were all very friendly. Good use of hilly land with some big downhills that you can go for it on. Only real complaint was that the greens had a lot of wear and tear at points looking completely pock marked. Might just be that it’s late in the summer, but If I paid $100+ like this course asks for on weekends, I would be annoyed. For the weekday twilight rate, it was great.
Elevation marvel
Superb golf destination. Fairways pristine. Greens and tee boxes pure. I’ll be back.
5 some has a great day
Played in just over 4 hours & enjoyed everything about it. Lots of character
Great Course
This course is in excellent condition and plays tough. The best most friendliest staff there is. It is on the pricier side, but you get what you pay for!
Superb venue
Bag attendants great. Starter not hospitable. Pro shop indifferent. Food service wonderful.
Great course
Good Layout, too expensive
Played Ranch and Vineyard for an early morning round. The course was definitely is worse condition than when. I played a couple years ago. Couple out the greens had patches, some parts of fairways were water logged and tee boxes were horrible. Definitely preferred the Ranch 9 as you are in the natural surrounding and not many houses unlike the vineyard side. Course is definitely challenging and take good precise ball placement to play well. Overall I enjoyed it for the challenge but for the price they need to make it in championship caliber condition like Gary Player intended. $150 was too much for what it was.
Steel canyon golf course.
Have played this course several times when the course pro shop was a pre fab home it's always been a great track with fast greens to bad Tina Michelson moved on she gave some good lessons you better bring your game tho if your going to brake 80.
Hidden Gem
Not many places where you can have a more enjoyable round. Course is amazing. Staff is super accommodating.
Fun course layout
I played Canyon and Ranch. Both layouts were fun and challenging. Pace of play was a little slow but beautiful weather and scenery made the wait not as bad. A little pricey for the value, but I will definitely play again.
