Oaks/Canyon at Blacklake Golf Course
About
Blacklake Golf Resort boasts 27 holes of championship golf that are divided into three nines called the Oaks, Canyons, and Lakes. The nines can be played in three different 18-hole combinations. The Oaks/Canyons Course is the toughest of the three. The front nine features narrow fairways that wind through mature coastal oaks. If you're not careful, you may find yourself in the woods on this challenging target-style layout. The back nine doesn't get any easier with a layout that tumbles across rolling terrain. With the resort's location on the Nipomo Mesa along California's Central Coast, the elevated tee boxes on the Canyons nine allows for some stunning views. The location also invites refreshing sea breezes. In addition to the three golf courses, there is also a 275-yard driving range available with more than 30 grass and artificial teeing areas as well as three putting, chipping, and pitching greens.

Oaks - Canyons
Course in pretty good shape. The par 3 (hole 8) on the Canyons is still having the tee box rebuilt but the rest of the greens were solid. The fairways looked good as the recent rain definitely helped with the usual bare spots found on this course. The Oaks layout is funky and narrow but course designer was limited by the real estate and terrain. Overall, good value for the money as with Golf Now deals can be found.
Economical small-town course
Nice course for the average player (over 10 handicap index). Three nine-hole courses to choose from.
Fairways need more grass, but hard to grow in our drought conditions.
Value for the Money
Did a last minute golf now deal. A little over $30 to play 18 with a cart. Hard to beat. The recent rain has helped with course conditions. The fairways were decent and the greens were in good shape.
Do Not Play
This course only gets the 1 star for the greens which were, I have to say excellent. Otherwise it is a utter goat track. No definition between fairway and rough, both of which are in awful condition along with the tee boxes. I have been playing golf for over 30 years and have never come across such a poorly maintained course, apart from the greens, which were receptive, quick and rolled true, getting to them was the issue. Glad we purchased via a hot deal at at $58 (inc fees) instead of the normal $79 + fees. I wouldn’t play here again if you paid me, STAY AWAY!
Good Deal on a Saturday
It was a last minute decision to play Black Lake on a Saturday but the online Golf Now deal was too good to pass up. The course was in good condition and the bunkers had plenty of sand. On a couple of holes on the Canyon 9 there were a lot of leaves on the fairway which sometimes made it tricky to locate our golf balls. Pace of play on the front 9 was great. We hardly had to wait at all. The back 9, Lakes, was a different story. Play was backed up quite a bit, but it was the Saturday right after Thanksgiving. The front 9 took @ 2 hours, but the back 9 was closer to 3 hours. No big deal. We had fun.
Nice greens
Greens were rolling nice. Overall course condition wasn’t great. We are heading into winter so I’ll take that into account. But $91 on a Friday morning is too expensive. You’re better off playing Monarch Dunes or Cypress Ridge near Blacklake.
Good deal
Great deal on tee off. Pace of play slowed to a crawl after ten holes. We got stuck behind two groups of 4 old guys.
It was fine
Staff not clear about which course we’d be playing and they changed it after 9 holes. Didn’t really matter they are all fairly similar.
Good course for the value.
It is an average municipal course but make sure you get the discount rate through Golf Now as they don't offer the same discount at the course. The greens were slow and a bit bumpy. Fairways dry but we are in a drought.
Blacklake
Great shape considering the drought. Greens in wonderful condition. Compliments to the greens keeper!!!
