Oaks/Canyon at Blacklake Golf Course

About
Blacklake Golf Resort boasts 27 holes of championship golf that are divided into three nines called the Oaks, Canyons, and Lakes. The nines can be played in three different 18-hole combinations. The Oaks/Canyons Course is the toughest of the three. The front nine features narrow fairways that wind through mature coastal oaks. If you're not careful, you may find yourself in the woods on this challenging target-style layout. The back nine doesn't get any easier with a layout that tumbles across rolling terrain. With the resort's location on the Nipomo Mesa along California's Central Coast, the elevated tee boxes on the Canyons nine allows for some stunning views. The location also invites refreshing sea breezes. In addition to the three golf courses, there is also a 275-yard driving range available with more than 30 grass and artificial teeing areas as well as three putting, chipping, and pitching greens.

Course in best condition in years
They have finally started maintaining the course the way they needed to for years.
Like playing in a pasture
Very poor fairway and greens. Deep weeds throughout all fairways, and weeds on greens. Like playing in a pasture.
Nice Day
I like this course for a player with my handicap - mid to high. I've played here a couple of times. There are 3 different 9 hole combinations that can be played to add a little variety, and each has its own personality.
Out of the tee box- on some fairways you could land a jet, while others require more precision, and are far less forgiving. The greens overall were in decent shape, and like the fairways, the green designs were a range from "fun" to "challenging".
The conditions the day we played were warm, sunny and a little windy (abt.15 knots). There are the typical California "dry areas" and "local fauna" (gophers) -- but no more than anyplace else!
Having said that, we had a good time, good rounds -- playing 18 holes, unrushed, in less than 4 1/2 hours! That's pretty unheard of in California on a Saturday!
Good Value
The course is in fair shape, the greens were better a couple of weeks ago. It is still a good value at $35 with a cart. The pace of play was perfect; we had nobody in front of us and were able to finish quickly.
Course need water!!
Course is dried out in most of the fairways, difficult to find grass even in the middle of the fairways.
Very good value
Got a hot deal rate at a great price. The staff was extremely friendly. Pace of play was perfect. Had a group of 2 in front and behind and all groups finished in less than 3 hours (yes, a 3hr round is possible). Greens were better than average. The fairways were the only negative, they were average for what a muni should be. Will be playing again, hopefully I have the same experience.
Black Lake - What’s Next?
What is going on with the course? The fairways are deteriorating at such quick rate and there doesn’t seem to be any improvements going on. Might need to rethink your greens/groundskeepers.”
Course is getting worse
Fair ways are really rough; lots of bad lies even in the middle of the fairway. Bad gopher problem. I would only play here for practice.
It’s In Rough Shape
Fairways needed to be mowed and full of gopher holes. Greens in terrible shape.
Cool spring day
Greens where in good condition, fairways need to be mowed. Good pace of play!!
Course condition
Greens were good. Fairways were okay. Still a little wet from rain, they could use a lot of bare spot seeding and repair.
Miserable 9 holes
I was only able to play 9 holes and I was by myself. The starter put out a group of 5 followed by 4, 2 and then me.
Bad planning, course is in its normal state of dis-repair with plenty of bare spots and gofer holes.
On the plus side the weather was great.
Good value
Reserved tee time same day and was able to tee off on time. Round took just over 3.5 hours with cart. Oaks fairways were not in beset condition. Lakes course much better. For the price and convenience I will be back.
