Course needs major maintenance and a marshall to move along players lagging behind.
The staff needs to pay better attention to the way they put people out on the course. If the group ahead has people walking, they should not put two people in carts right behind them. The course needs to have a marshall patroll the course to help maintain the pace of play. I was out there for over five hours and never once saw a marshall.
An unfortunately neglected course. Someone give the greenskeeper some resources.
Despite the condition of the fairways we enjoyed the layout. I will never understand why it costs only $20 to play but they obviously don't have the budget to maintain the fairways. There was certainly no evidence of on-going work taking place on the course.
There is no course marshall and consequently the group of young men in front of us simply assumed their right to take as long as necessary, often taking second shots off the tee and conducting continuous searches for balls. At one point there were three open holes in front of them so we passed up the 14th and carried on as did the group behind us.
Nice greens
Greens are in good shape, but the fairways need a little attention. Overall, this is a good challenging and long course.
Best game yet
This is the first par 72 that I shot in the low 90's. The fairways are wide open and even playable when you have a bad shot. Putting is a must for a good score.
Slow play great staff
great location easy to get to easy to walk. friendly staff clean bathrooms beverage cart grass driving range
The course was a little ragged, but nice for the time of year.
The course was very busy and the staff was accomodating and honest about the situations. The course was good for the time of year and play was slow due to the volume of players. All in all a good outing.
Maybe worst I've ever played
Fairways were dead - Grass was brown as could be. The tee box on 3 had gophers on it (see pic). Went off almost 25 minutes after the selected tee time. Took well over 5 hours and didn't really get the last 2 holes in properly because we were losing daylight.
Only positive was the 2/$6 bud light pounders
Fair golf course
Not maintained or will it ever be.. Played this course 3x from last year to now and its the same course condition. No fairway grass but weeds and dirt, rough is just plain and solid dirt. Have to play 'pick and place' not to damage clubs.. Greens are the same with too much patches. Slow play for 6hrs as there's a five sum walking in front.
Sunday morning @ 9am $40 inc cart...not too bad
First time back to this course in 15 years. Turf condition is not to good but greens were good. Staff is friendly. Place of play is typical for public weekend golf. Not sure what's up with all the interior O.B.???
Problems with course
they over book on this course, we had a tee time for a 3some at 1:15pm, hole 1 & 2 were okay, but soon as we hit hole 3 it was backed up for the rest of the 15 holes it was backed up took us over 5 1/2 hours to play and never even finished the course it was already dark an we couldnt finish hole 16. also the snack lady just hung around on one hole and was only on the course for an hour, even staff that work at the bar says people complain about her she works an hour then leave, most of the snacks were gone and soda was slim pickings
Fairways pretty thin, but greens in great shape. Fun course.
Fairways always pretty thin, but greens in great shape. Always a fun course the makes you use all the clubs in your bag, with lots of doglegs, forced layups, steep downhills and uphills, and afternoon wind.
Excellent Greens, Pace of play fast.
Excellent greens, practice facilities, putting and chipping greens. Clubhouse and bar great with friendly staff.
Bad condition and overbooked!
Got a "great deal" on Golf now, but you get what you pay for. Started 40 minutes late because they are overbooked, and the course condition was terrible. 6+ hour round and didn't finish. Never again.
Nice course in bad condition
I played Oceanside on 1-30-13 at 12:15. the pace of play was good. We were never slowed down by other golfers. The condition of the course is not good. The fairways were very thin, bare in spots, and heavily divitoted. The greens had many un-repaired ball marks and were bumpy. The bunkers were inconsistent in the amount and texture of "sand." The staff was friendly. The layout of the course is interesting and has good variety. I would play this course again but not until the weather warms and the condition improves.
Fun track with some interesting holes. Love the back 9.
Second time I played course. First time course had been impacted by heavy rain. Basically, a flat course with some interesting holes requiring you to carry shots over hazards. Love the back 9. More elevation and some great shot making holes.
Don't Judge a Book ...
When you first look out at Oceanside Golf Course, all you see is brown. From tee to green, the deciduous grass in the fairways and rough scares many players away from this muni. Once out on the course, however, it is a very enjoyable experience. While the fairways and rough are firm and thin in many spots, the lies are generally playable. The tee boxes and bunkers are usually ok. The greens are smooth and fast with few ball marks. What I like best is the layout. While the young bombers will probably destroy this course, average players will find a fun mix of birdie holes, tricky holes, and a couple holes that play pretty long with the prevailing wind. The green fees are reasonable and the course is walkable (with one uphill par four being the exception). Pace of play was good and I love the drive down Interstate 5 through Camp Pendleton to get there.
Nice layout for municipal course
Oceanside Golf Course offers a fun layout and challenging holes for a satisfying day of golf. The course was dry and had many spots without grass, but the greens were very well maintained. Water nice addition and does not impact game if you hit straight. Good price for 18 holes. Will come again.
No overcrowding. No need to rush. Great pace
Challenging course for a par 72. Course was brown due to winter frost but played well. Looking forward to playing again.
Great course for the money. Challenging layout needs some tidying up by greenskeeper
Oceanside Golf Course is a great place to play, especially for the value-one of the lowest weekend rates in north county. A good variety of holes keeps it interesting, and the course is plenty challenging from any set of tees with water hazards including creeks and lakes coming into play on almost every hole. In fact this course might be a bit tough for a beginner- Bring extra balls.. Condition of greens varies but this time they were moderate to quick with some bumpiness leftover on some greens from the last aeration. Pace of play was great- Football playoffs helps. Friendly staff. Good views. I will continue to play here.
