Desert Falls Country Club
About
Can bunkers qualify as their own continent? Desert Falls Country Club in Palm Desert seems determined to find out.
This Ron Frehm design boasts bunkers so huge that they look like the inventor of the Big Gulp came up with them. And escape is anything but guaranteed. Sometimes getting out of one bunker, just means landing in another at Desert Falls.
That is just part of the reason this course totes a 145 slope rating - putting it among the five highest slope ratings in the entire Palms Springs area. Remember, this is the golf mecca with Pete Dye's Stadium Course, which was only designed to be "the toughest golf course in the world." Desert Falls is on that list.
There are five sets of tees to take away some of the bite. But the greens are still an obstacle of their own. These are undulating greens that are large enough to offer several varieties of challenges.
Just getting on the green is not enough at Desert Falls. It's important to land on the right part of the green. This is also a course with more hills than you expect to see in the desert.

Bad clubhouse response
Large group of kids were playing course.
On almost every hole two or three
Groups would stand and talk or take pictures .
They had no adults to give guidance.
We called the club house to get help as well aaa
The groups behind us. There was no response
Also no carts when we checked in. The cart boys
Made not attempt to help us put
Bags on when they did come in. We were trying to set up our own carts when our times were called.
Pretty much the clubhouse employees
Just stood around. This was no comparison to classic club and how they received us for
Basicly the same price a round
Slow!
Course plays really slow because there are no marshals pushing anyone. Had a fivesome with three carts in front of us and waited 5 to 10 minutes to tee off every hole. Paid for 18, but after three hours to get through nine we just gave up. Went to talk to the pro shop, but they closed at like 5 o’clock.
Great course, lousy amenities
Beautiful course hindered by lack of amenities. Not enough carts so had to walk 400 yards and back to mats on driving range. No beverage cart. Snackshack at turn open from 9-1, so later tee times miss mid round food and beverage opportunity. Starter interrogates you about handicap, then suggests forward tees if over 15. Ironically no marshal on course to control pace of play. Round took 4.5 hours but could have been much faster if not waiting on every tee.
Too bad because the course is beautiful and very challenging.
Okay for the cost
Good condition, quirky holes, plays long. Friendly staff.
Enjoyable Outing
Hard course for a senior intermediate player, but other than that, an enjoyable morning!!
Bunkers
Fun course to play. Lot of interesting holes. Sand bunkers were poorly maintained
Outside refreshment stand would have been nice instead of having to go in the clubhouse bar. Other than that course was fun to play!
Lots of elevation, water and huge greens
Very interesting layout, all buildings are on the periphery. Starter gave us a guide book for the course which was essential as no GPS on cart.
Well worth the visit.
Perfect Day!
We had played the other course at Desert Springs, but this was our first time on the Valley Course. The course is in excellent shape and a great layout. A bit challenging, but very playable. We were paired up with another couple who were just delightful and the four of us had a great time. Definitely one we'll play again next time we're in Palm Springs.
Greens were in good shape
Pro Shop staff not too friendly.
Starter was good. Pace of play OK.
