Can bunkers qualify as their own continent? Desert Falls Country Club in Palm Desert seems determined to find out.
This Ron Frehm design boasts bunkers so huge that they look like the inventor of the Big Gulp came up with them. And escape is anything but guaranteed. Sometimes getting out of one bunker, just means landing in another at Desert Falls.
That is just part of the reason this course totes a 128 slope rating - putting it among the five highest slope ratings in the entire Palms Springs area. Remember, this is the golf mecca with Pete Dye's Stadium Course, which was only designed to be "the toughest golf course in the world." Desert Falls is on that list.
There are five sets of tees to take away some of the bite. But the greens are still an obstacle of their own. These are undulating greens that are large enough to offer several varieties of challenges.
Just getting on the green is not enough at Desert Falls. It's important to land on the right part of the green. This is also a course with more hills than you expect to see in the desert.

Experience and Course don’t match
Course was beautiful and staff in club house were less than friendly or helpful. Cart Barn staff at the end were great. Unfortunate to be cart path only.
Golf review
Great layout -nice design .
90 degree rule -awful
Pins on the greens were very difficult-must have had a tournament..
The Day the Wind Blew
The course was recently reseeded and it was cart path only. Greens were slow but over all the course was in good shape. For some reason the rough was very long and we spent as much time looking for balls as playing!
Nice practice area and great views from the bar/19th hole!
First cut
The first cut rough was so hungry it ate 6 of my balls there was no forgiveness if you missed the fairway
3 horas just front 9
Shortage of golf cart need to wait until other is done.
And each hole need to wait 10 min to tee off.

I do not lie car path only but this time they had cut the grass s it was easier to find our ball

Would be nice to know in advance that it is cart path only. Not cool to find out when arriving.

Average rating desert falls
First day after reopening for overseen. Greens below average. Rough had not been mowed in long time. Hard to find ball. Not a great time
Course should not be open yet. Rough on front 9 has not been cut. Back nine was better. It was so bad that we will not come back, which is too bad because if we played a few weeks later, it would be much better, probably.
The Day The Wind Blew
Sustained wind in the 20’s with gusts in the 30’s. Anything out of the fairway was difficult to locate. The rough was at least 4” high and not thick enough to support a golf ball. Add the joy of “cart path only”, and it was a challenging round! More time spent looking for golf balls than playing golf!
That said, the course is in good shape after reseeding and the very slow greens are in good condition. The range and the short game practice area are great with one exception, no grass tees. Pleasant helpful staff. Plenty of convenient parking. The snack bar and the bar are well stocked and offer great views of the course and surrounding mountains.
We’ll be back!
Opening Day
Ugg, rough was ridiculous, lost 3 balls along edge of fairway, greens keeper should be made to play the course.
Greens were slowww and shaggy.
Cart path only, nothing like having to walk over with 3 clubs in your hand each time...
Do not recommend until after Nov 14th when fairways open for carts, good luck with rough and greens.
