Desert Falls Country Club
About
Can bunkers qualify as their own continent? Desert Falls Country Club in Palm Desert seems determined to find out.
This Ron Frehm design boasts bunkers so huge that they look like the inventor of the Big Gulp came up with them. And escape is anything but guaranteed. Sometimes getting out of one bunker, just means landing in another at Desert Falls.
That is just part of the reason this course totes a 145 slope rating - putting it among the five highest slope ratings in the entire Palms Springs area. Remember, this is the golf mecca with Pete Dye's Stadium Course, which was only designed to be "the toughest golf course in the world." Desert Falls is on that list.
There are five sets of tees to take away some of the bite. But the greens are still an obstacle of their own. These are undulating greens that are large enough to offer several varieties of challenges.
Just getting on the green is not enough at Desert Falls. It's important to land on the right part of the green. This is also a course with more hills than you expect to see in the desert.

very disappointed
although the fairways were in good condition, we were told when we got to the 1st tee that it was cart path only, the fairways are extremely wide and the course is definitely not suited to CPO policy, fairways conditions were some of the best we've played in the Palm Springs area this fall so this policy was very annoying and unnecessary!! Fairway sand traps were deep and sloped so ball would roll to steep ledges which made shot unplayable! Greens were slow but in good condition, shape of greens were strange and pin placements very questionable. Thank goodness the couple that my wife and I were paired with were good company! TOO MANY OTHER GREAT COURSES TO PLAY IN AREA, WILL NOT PLAY HERE AGAIN
Back 9 start
Our tee time was backed up with slow play, so we started on back nine, got held up by the time we got around to the front 9 a bit. Overall conditions were very good, slow greens though.
Superintendent has too much influence on fairway access
Nice course. Your going to pay a bit for palm desert golf in november. That’s expected.
We had a handicpped golfer. We asked for and received a handicap flag at the clubhouse. When we got to the first t the starter checked us in and after a few minutes announced that the course was now deemed fairways only by the superintendent.
That was quite difficult for our guest who could not contnue after 9. It was embarrassing for him.
They were not sympathetic or accommodating in any way at the club house. There are many well healed that frequent the desert. They just don't care. Why would they.
The course was not wet anywhere. They blamed the decision on the superintendent who allegedly declared no exceptions to cart path only, including handicap.
They claimed in the club house that they alerted golf noew to contact there booking clients to notify them of the cart ruling of the day. I received no such notice from them.
They take the money fir a quality experience but are not compelled to provide one.
Really like this course
Always like playing here.
Interesting holes.
Sneaky tough in spite of the length.
Course just reopened so the rougj hadn’t been cut down yet.
Wet, long, brutal if you hit it off fairway!
A challenge but where are the tips…
Overall great course. Greens were slow shaggy but more so than expected. No service at the turn or on course which was disappointing. Overall decent shape for time of year. Did not expect the greens as small as they were cut. But expect that they probably widen them when the grass is a bit more mature. Also, no tips boxes even cut so a weird setup for long hitters with awkward tee distances to some tight landing spots.
Cart path only
There was nothing to advise us it was still cart path only. We were not told when we paid. We only found out as we were teeing off by the starter. I have a bad foot and we had to quit after 9. Superwide fairways and lots of up and downs which made it very difficult. Not impressed with the course. More old style golfing. It is reflected inside with the decor.
Avergae
Greens were shaggy like a pitch and putt and in was cart paths only. Group in front of us was a 3some and still a hole behind all day and March all did nothing to speed them up. About of the course is nice.
No beverage cart.
Course OK
Like course but
Too expensive
Can’t get drinking water easily
No GPS
Dead Grass
Although it was a great day of golf, the grass was dead as they were getting ready to re-seed.
Summer Play
Great course layout, but everything was dry and the course conditions were really bad. I know they were reseeding, but they should indicate that on the GN App.
Overseeding
Course was dry and grass was brown and dead
No mention that the course was ready for over seeding everything was dead even the greens. I’m wondering why golf now would sell tee times for a course in that condition?
I’m going to ask for my money back
Wish they warned people
We are tourists playing multiple courses over the past week. This was the most expensive but in the worst condition. Had we known they were already doing “brown out” we would have chosen a different course. There wasn’t a patch of green to be seen and the greens were bumpy and pretty much unplayable.
We are aware that courses are close to shut down but they should have shut down before brown out or.note in “brown out” when booking. That and reduce the price significantly more.
Stay away
This course has begun the overseeing process. Fairways and greens are shaved. No grass anywhere. Striking your ball on the fairway is the same as hitting a ball on dirt. Putting on the greens was like putting on a fairway. It was 107, and there was only one water station on the entire course. No beverage cart. The clubhouse, restaurant, and bar are closed.. I understand the process desert courses go through this time of the year, but the other courses simply close until their respective course is playable. Not Desert Falls. If they continue to advertise that they are open, they should have a disclaimer letting the paying public know what the course conditions are. If you enjoy hitting off dirt on a hot desert course with little water, this is the place for you.
