Desert Falls Country Club
About
Can bunkers qualify as their own continent? Desert Falls Country Club in Palm Desert seems determined to find out.
This Ron Frehm design boasts bunkers so huge that they look like the inventor of the Big Gulp came up with them. And escape is anything but guaranteed. Sometimes getting out of one bunker, just means landing in another at Desert Falls.
That is just part of the reason this course totes a 128 slope rating - putting it among the five highest slope ratings in the entire Palms Springs area. Remember, this is the golf mecca with Pete Dye's Stadium Course, which was only designed to be "the toughest golf course in the world." Desert Falls is on that list.
There are five sets of tees to take away some of the bite. But the greens are still an obstacle of their own. These are undulating greens that are large enough to offer several varieties of challenges.
Just getting on the green is not enough at Desert Falls. It's important to land on the right part of the green. This is also a course with more hills than you expect to see in the desert.

Golfer Reviews
Course conditions were very good. Greens were true and consistent. The fairways had some patchy spots, however in good condition. At tee time check in staff was not very friendly or eager to engage in a conversation. Would be back to play the course again
Great golf course.
I have played here many times pre pandemic. The biggest thing I noticed was no free golf balls on the driving range any more. This cheapens the overall experience of what used to be a very classy golf course.
Twilight Round
Seems like a good course for people starting out in golf. The course was a bit rough for this time of year compared to surrounding courses. I had a 3:45pm tee time. As I arrived I was informed the cart needed to be returned by 6:30. Fortunately, I was able to tee off at 3:15 and ended up finishing 18 around 6pm. I went out as a single and only ran into the group in front of me on 17&18. Overall worked out for me for as an after work impromptu tee time. For $75 there are better courses in better shape. Its a fun course, just needs a little love.
Not great…
Tee boxes were rough, bunkers were garbage. Had a 9:40 tee time, no place to grab a quick bite to eat or beverage. Played the front, still nobody in the grill to grab a beverage or a snack. Played all 18 and no beverage cart. Would not recommend to anyone
Very nice course!
We always play Desert Falls when we’re on holiday here. The course has a great layout, some really interesting holes and is well maintained. The mountain backdrop is everywhere and is spectacular.
Wish the good and beverage environment was a bit better, but the golf course makes up for it.
Golf 2023
Good layout good place of play poor cafe and poor food selection beer way too expensive
Actual rough and some wild greens
Price to play was in the ballpark. This course has some areas of thick juicy rough and a few greens are quite difficult. Overall decent value
Great condition
This course surprised me with incredible course condition. The layout is fun, it’s a bit on the shorter side but still challenging with smaller than average green size. The staff was excellent, and playing partners that day were great also. All around 5 star experience. Would play here again in a heartbeat.
Love those greens
This course actually allows the rough to grow. Grass is very healthy and many of the greens, though a bit slow) are fantastic!
Excellent all around. Back nine was challenging and requires your best game. I’ll be back.
Total Goat Track
Had hopes for this course after a couple of playing partners recommended it, boy were they wrong. If you like very bumpy greens, sand traps that are rock hard with very little sand and fairways that would be considered rough at most courses, this is it. The whole course has been invaded by some sort of weed that creates poor conditions, especially on the greens, bumpiest greens I have played in the desert. The traps are very firm with almost no sand and standing water in many places, around the greens it seemed unfair. Overall the fairways and rough were quite long and littered with the same weed. Overall conditions were similar to a average to poorly maintained muni course, much better options in this price range.
