Can bunkers qualify as their own continent? Desert Falls Country Club in Palm Desert seems determined to find out.

This Ron Frehm design boasts bunkers so huge that they look like the inventor of the Big Gulp came up with them. And escape is anything but guaranteed. Sometimes getting out of one bunker, just means landing in another at Desert Falls.

That is just part of the reason this course totes a 128 slope rating - putting it among the five highest slope ratings in the entire Palms Springs area. Remember, this is the golf mecca with Pete Dye's Stadium Course, which was only designed to be "the toughest golf course in the world." Desert Falls is on that list.

There are five sets of tees to take away some of the bite. But the greens are still an obstacle of their own. These are undulating greens that are large enough to offer several varieties of challenges.

Just getting on the green is not enough at Desert Falls. It's important to land on the right part of the green. This is also a course with more hills than you expect to see in the desert.

Moderately challenging

You need to stay out of the rough. It was unusually deep during our round. Water on several holes demand that you play to your strength and don't chase the hero shots.

Took nearly 4.5 hours to play. First half(back nine) was particularly slow as we were following a couple who were walking nd getting into trouble on few occasions. Otherwise no complaints

Desert Gem

Play this course if you get a chance. Try to play with a member as there are a lot of dog legs and elevation changes. The greens are not always visible from the tee box.

Not a $100 Course

I played this course several times between 2008 and 2020, when it was private. It’s a fun layout but its condition has deteriorated severely. Greens are okay, but tees and especially fairways are substandard for a course that charges $135 mornings and $100 after noon. Yes, prices have gone up in the Palm Springs area, but other courses in this price range are much better maintained.

Beautiful views but tough course.

It was a long course with difficult greens and the ground was very hard, but it was beautiful!

Great Layout, Great Value

I really enjoyed the course layout. Plenty of water hazards, and bunkers. Greens have character and roll true. Look forward to coming back out.

worst course I've played in the valley

Hard to imagine a country club course in worse condition. The fairways were dreadful--clumps of grass (not well mowed) and numerous bare spots. The greens were passable, but not excellent. Edges of fairways were thick making it hard to find balls. The cart paths were full of weeds and generally unkept. Clearly not worth $100 a round. The whole place looked dated and in need of serious upgrades. We won't be back.

Don’t waste your money

Course was in very poor condition. Fairways were especially bad and overall poorly manicured. No beverage cart was a bummer.
