Desert Falls Country Club
About
Can bunkers qualify as their own continent? Desert Falls Country Club in Palm Desert seems determined to find out.
This Ron Frehm design boasts bunkers so huge that they look like the inventor of the Big Gulp came up with them. And escape is anything but guaranteed. Sometimes getting out of one bunker, just means landing in another at Desert Falls.
That is just part of the reason this course totes a 145 slope rating - putting it among the five highest slope ratings in the entire Palms Springs area. Remember, this is the golf mecca with Pete Dye's Stadium Course, which was only designed to be "the toughest golf course in the world." Desert Falls is on that list.
There are five sets of tees to take away some of the bite. But the greens are still an obstacle of their own. These are undulating greens that are large enough to offer several varieties of challenges.
Just getting on the green is not enough at Desert Falls. It's important to land on the right part of the green. This is also a course with more hills than you expect to see in the desert.

A day on the course
Desert Falls is in a seasonal transition state with dead grass as we head into the winter. The greens were rough - but it may be a seasonal thing in this area. All in all we played with another couple and had a good time. The club was closed when we finished our round at about 2:30. The course plays long and you will play your second round better than your first because there were some challenging bunkers, slopes, water hazards.
Extremely friendly staff
Course was getting Ready for reseed bud still in fairly good shape. Great staff, would love to play course when in top condition.
Good Day
The course was a little dry as they prepare for over seeding. The staff was extremely friendly and helpful. The layout was good with many challenging holes.
The greens were in fair condition needed to rolled. Off the fairway was in good shape
Thank you for the beautiful bathrooms!
Forgive me if this is a duplicate review. We have not been here in over 3 years due to Covid. What a difference. Even though the course is "going down for a month"....it looked well taken care of. Clean, manicured...
The beautiful newly decorated bathrooms were a great surprise and actually were stocked with paper and soap!
Most of the greens crew pass on the bathroom upkeep because they are so burdened with the course. Your half way house being open and serving was another treat....most are closed. Thank you....thank you...we will be back!
Wow.....What happened Here???
We had not played here in about 3 years. What a
Surprise! The Course looked so different,,,,so well
maintained, so groomed. Even though it is being
taken down for the season, it was obvious that it
was being well maintained. All the bathrooms have
been re-done and actually had soap and paper towels
stocked. The bathrooms were beautiful. The Pro at the Golf Shop was friendly; as was the gentleman at the
halfway house. Yes!!!! the Halfway House was open!!!
No one does that anymore....The greens rolled true.
Challenging Course...we loved it. We are coming back!
Desert Falls
Rode the Blues (6687/72.2/127) in 3H, 15M with RGM2525 early morning. Thanks to Ron for setting up on a GM voucher. Breezy, clear and around 95 as we were finishing.
Up down rolling hills, rare to have a links style layout in the greater Palm Springs area. I enjoy this layout not only because it is better than average but also because it is so unique for the area.
Entire course is drying out with fall over seeding not far away, but still very playable.
Tees level and decent coverage. A few needed divot repair.
Fairways dry with decent coverage. Played firm with lots of roll out.
Rough thick and punitive for the most part.
Traps well maintained and all i was in had a decent amount of sand.
Greens medium speed and firm. Late summer bumpy Bermuda.
No on course services during the week in the summer. Nice, well stocked pro shop, beautiful clubhouse. Adequate water stations and restrooms on the course. Basic carts do no have GPS. All grass range included that has a decent short game area. Recommended.
Improving
Desert Falls' overall condition has improved over the past year. Most of the greens are smooth and cut for this time of year in the desert. The bunkers, of which I found a few during the round, don't have much sand in some places and makes shots difficult. Overall it's a venerable older valley course in good condition and worth playing again.
Desert falls
The course was a little long for me but it was in great shape except the greens were slow
Nice to revisit
It’s been a few years but one never forgets a courses layout. Rough hadn’t been mowed in a good while which meant finding the errant shot was extremely tough. Hitting out penalized oneself. Stay out. Fairways, greens and bunkers are in nice shape one month away from over seeding. Few services available which is somewhat expected with Covid and time of year in the desert. We had a fun round and I look forward to playing the course again.
