River Falls Plantation
About
River Falls Golf Plantation in Duncan is a Gary Player Signature Course. Its location makes it convenient for meeting up with people coming from Asheville, Columbia, Atlanta, or Charlotte. The golf course is also just minutes away from downtown Greenville. The narrow layout will test the accuracy and shot making abilities of even the best golfers. Rolling hills provide a variety of elevation changes that range from subtle to dramatic. Water hazards come into play frequently and there are also strategically placed bunkers framing the greens and fairways. Player crafted a golf course that is both formidable and scenic. The abundance of mature trees helped him achieve this. He carefully wove River Falls Golf Plantation through the mature forests, allowing the trees to surround the holes, giving each a secluded and peaceful feel.

Just finished, looking back down 18 Photo submitted by u702760800 on 12/07/2019
Greens were firm (even after several days of rain) and some were in bad shape. Starter sent groups off the back nine which slowed the round and we had to wait on every shot.
Excellent Greens
Greens in Excellent shape...the fairways are in good shape...pace of play great...a couple of holes where there was repair underway...overall well worth it
Enjoyable
Greens were tremendous and hardly had a mark on them. Pace of play terrific at 3:45 for a foursome. Like the par 3’s the best and used all my clubs during the round
Great golf
The fairways were fluffy with beautiful grass. The greens were nice and fast. An occasional odd spot on the greens that did not factor into the hole.
Slow
The tee time they sold us was the first one off behind the member/member tournament. It took us 3 hours to play 10 holes. It was painfully slow. They should’ve allowed more time between a shotgun start tournament and letting others tee off.
Fun Front 9, Quirky back 9
There are about 5 holes on this course that are very odd due to severe elevation changes, blind shots, and penal hazard locations I.e. OB left,, narrow fairway, and lateral hazard right. Completely unwalkable course. Fine in a cart. I only play this course as a last resort. The pro shop staff is awesome, helpful, food is good, and practice area is very good. The odd layout is the only drawback. Greens were actually in excellent shape for this time of year.
Used To Be
I know it's winter, but this course needs maintenance. Bunkers missing sand, fairways hard packed and nearly clay/mud in large places. Carts long overdue for a 90 rule. Greens painted. Fairways dormant. Areas surrounding tee boxes just patchy rough fescue. Worth $25 and that's about it on or off season.
Thank you for taking time to review River Falls. Unfortunately there isn't anything we can do about being dormant. Please come back this spring and give it a try when the course is green and lush.
Give the course a rest
I really like River Falls but with all the rain we have had I think, cart path only or a good dry out is needed. I would hate to see the beautiful course damaged for the sake of few rounds but I am sure the ground keeper know more than I. Great staff, great course and everyone is always friendly.
Thank you for the nice review and your feedback. It has been quite a winter! For the enjoyment of our guests and pace of play we do tend to allow players to ride the fairways often. Hopefully the growing season is right around the corner!!!
Thanks for the great review! We are already looking forward to your next visit!
Great shape - Great value
Course is in top shape. Beautiful location and layout.
Great challenging course
This course was in great shape for the time of year. Grass was becoming dormant so tight lies we on most shots. Greens were in good shape and would hold approach shots while keeping the putting speed as fast. I played with my son as his first time playing. He shot an even 72... great placement course (risk/reward) Enjoyed the course and will be back for sure
Nice experience
The course was well kept and inviting. The staff was excellent. This was our 2 nd time playing this course and we will definitely return.
Spartanburg/Duncan
Nice layout with a variety of looks. You'll need all the clubs in the bag and able to control shots to score well. Staff is always friendly and accommodating.
Great Value
The course was in great condition. Pin location sheet was very helpful. Favorable course for all levels.
Beautiful course that I didn’t know about until Golf now showed it.
Nice to find a new challenging course so close to home. 25 min from Greenville, and I didn’t even know about it until I seen it in golf now. The guy in the club house was not too friendly, but if I had to do his job instead of play golf I wouldn’t be either. The ranger stay on patrol throughout the front 9. Never seen him on the back 9. Very friendly guy. Need to be an accurate hitter to make most of the fairways. And the tee boxes are confusing with rails, rocks, something else. Couldn’t tell which ones were the white tees for a couple holes. Something the guy in the club house could have told me instead of grab one of those books and read it. I told him it was my first time there was there anything he could advise us on. Greens are in excellent shape and very challenging with some of them 50 yards long. Was happy to play bogey golf at a new course.
Punative
Very tough course that severely punishes shots that miss the green. Not much room for error. Not for the average weekend golfer.
Thank you for your feedback. It is always welcomed. The uniqueness of the back 9 is one thing that makes our course special. Almost every hole has some element of risk/reward. Give it another try and see if you can bring it to its knees! Thank you for the kind words about our staff and greens!
