River Falls Plantation

About
River Falls Golf Plantation in Duncan is a Gary Player Signature Course. Its location makes it convenient for meeting up with people coming from Asheville, Columbia, Atlanta, or Charlotte. The golf course is also just minutes away from downtown Greenville. The narrow layout will test the accuracy and shot making abilities of even the best golfers. Rolling hills provide a variety of elevation changes that range from subtle to dramatic. Water hazards come into play frequently and there are also strategically placed bunkers framing the greens and fairways. Player crafted a golf course that is both formidable and scenic. The abundance of mature trees helped him achieve this. He carefully wove River Falls Golf Plantation through the mature forests, allowing the trees to surround the holes, giving each a secluded and peaceful feel.

Nice Course
Great place to play. The pace was a little slow but other than that it's a great course.
Beautiful
Had a wonderful morning round I got there at sunrise and the Golf Professional was already prepping carts and shop. He let me go early as no one was there. It was a beautiful sunrise morning and the course was very nice and an awesome layout.
Course in great shape
Pace of play on the back nine was slow but it was good to see the course busy.
Where to start
Course conditions are not great with many barren areas that are very rocky right off the fairways. Diamond Zoysia greens that were randomly top dressed and held very few shots even with wedges. Plus construction on hole 6 with an active bonfire. One of the carts in our group broke down and we had multiple people from behind join us as we were waiting on every shot. At one point 4 groups on one hole. Fairways were overall great however and it’s disappointing considering this used to be a great place.
Course starter
The course starter was extra nice and welcomed us as first time players.
Way toooo sloooooww play
Course is in OK shape, fairways are best. Greens were bumpy and sandy, so the reads weren’t as true. I’d like to play again under better conditions.
However, the pace of play was painfully slow. 5 hour round! I suggest staff goes to 15-min tee time spacing because 10 is too short. Need a ranger out there moving people along, respectfully. Waited 5-10 minutes at every tee box and at most fairways from hole 4 onward.
Not much grass on most Tee boxes.
Greens were slow.
5+ hour round.
Greens
The course had recently aerated the greens so they were a bit rough and bumpy. Necessary maintenance. The fairways were full and plush. Overall great condition. Greens will improve in the coming days.
Average Course in the Area
River Falls is an average golf course in the Spartanburg area. The layout is a bit crazy and the condition of the course isn’t great with some dead spots on the greens, inconsistent green speeds, and hard dirt spots around the course. However, Doug in the pro shop is the best and is sure to put a smile on your face every time you walk in! If you want to play a different layout though, River Falls is for you but I would wait for a hot deal because at full price it is not worth the cost compared to other golf courses in the area.
