Pumpkin Ridge Golf Club - Ghost Creek Course

I took a trip to Portland and was hoping to play some great golf with iconic Pacific Northwest pine trees and mountain views. Pumpkin Ridge turned out to be the perfect fit! The course was in excellent shape and the layout was superb. Every hole felt different and I could see myself playing there many times without getting bored. Greens were one of the highlights as they rolled true and fast. Despite elevation changes from hole to hole, the course was very easy to walk.

I highly recommend playing here if you are near the Portland area.

Indeed there are only two water dispensers on the course. Fortunately I always carry a water bottle so I can load up and drink at will.

Course was beautiful and in perfect shape but the overall experience was sub par. We mistakenly bought a walking rate at 2:50 pm. The course wanted $25 to get a cart (split the difference b/w rack and GolfNow.com rate) but we decided to walk anyway. Big mistake. We are used to water on every other hole. There are only 2 water fountains on the course, the drink machines either didn't work or only took exact change, and the beverage cart came by once (4:00 pm on the fourth hole) on an 85+ degree day. If I'm walking, water is a major issue, so this alone pretty much ruined the round by the back nine (which has some pretty significant elevation changes). Unless you walk a lot, go ahead and get the cart if it is hot. Very little relief from the sun here.

The course layout on the scorecard is worthless and there is no layout information at the tee box. Only a problem on a couple of holes but it would have been helpful. No information at all on greens or pin placements. This is so easy to do and it boggles the mind why it isn't printed on every scorecard. Maybe they just assume everyone just relies on rangefinders! The little creek that winds through is very cool. Yardages are well marked and appear to be accurate. Greens were in great shape, held approach shots well, and rolled true. I thought they were pretty fast. Sand traps were perfect. Lots of divots, probably b/c of so many walkers. As long as you hit the ball straight here, you will score. Only a couple of places where shaping the ball is required. Facilities were kind of ratty, with mats on the very small driving range. More like an upper end muni than a high end daily fee course.

Do not rely on Siri to get you here from the Willamette Valley!! Use the map on the website and trust it!

Overall, I can't say how this course stacks up to Portland area courses but it was double what we pay in Charlotte for a comparable course. I suspect that has a lot to do with why the parking lot was practically empty on a gorgeous July day.

Very difficult rough for the normal golfer but the fairways and greens were outstanding.

I like Pumpkin Ridge, my issue is the standard green fee's. If it wasn't for the twilight rate we would've been looking at around $110.00 a person. I know it's history, LPGA events, U.S. Amatuers etc.. but in comparison to other courses, particularly the ones I play in Northern California (see Darkhorse) It's a bit spendy to play on a consistant basis.

We teed off at 7:00 on a Saturday, and there was only one group out in front of us. Beautiful course with mature trees and a pretty little creek running through almost every hole. The front nine gets pretty thick under the trees, so if you hook or slice, you will want to take a couple sleeves with you.
Back nine is more open, and errant tee shots are usually playable.
Staff was wonderful. We took a cab to the course and took our luggage as we were flying out after the round, and they let us leave our luggage at the pro-shop. I don't recommend cabbing, as it was $70 from downtown Portland.
I definitely want to visit this course again, and take my own clubs. Rentals were good, but the softer shafts made it difficult to hit the ball straight.

Great course. I will be back.

Pumpkin Ridge is still one of the best courses in the state.

March Has Great Twilight Rates After 1. Makes It Reasonable To Play.

This is a great course with wonderful features - free range balls, large putting green, well laid out course that is challenging and not punishing (although some of the rough gave me a tough time, but that's my fault). However, when my son and I played at "twilight time" on Saturday at the end of Spring Break the course showed signs of wear. Some greens, especially the par 3s, looked like the surface of the moon. Even without the ball marks the greens were suprisingly bumpy. But I attribute that to the week and I certainly will be back.

We really enjoyed the afternoon. The course is well maintained, but a little soft because of recent rains and cool weather. We commented as we were near the end of the round, " Sure enjoy playing this course."

It is not your usual flat Portland area golf course. The changes in elevation and terrain were challenging and enjoyable.

I will definitely put this on my "to play" list!!

The course was in good shape considering the weather. The greens were a bit slow, but very true. When I got the right speed the ball tracked straight to the hole. The rough was rough! Deep, thick and wet. I missed a fairway by two paces and never saw the ball again. I guess there's a lesson there.

I have had now played this course in dry and wet conditions and have to say there is a huge difference . Played yesterday ( hadnt rained heavy for a few days ) if your shot went off the fairway then you had a 80% chance of it being lost/plugged due to the swamp like conditions. It can be seen that the ground staff are doing a lot to try and prevent this but I think the course build just doesnt allow fro water to drain , also like wise on a large number of fairways . One thing that has to be said though is the greens were in great condition , this shows that where possible the staff are working hard to keep this course playable. I also played this in the summer and it was a plesaure to play , tough but fair and stunning setting and well maintained.

i thought the course was in good shape, considering the PNW. there were some inconsistencies on the greens which was disappointing. although the greens that had been mowed and rolled that day ran really well.

One of the most expensive public courses in the Portland area, but worth it for that special occasion and especially if you get a GolfNow Hot Deal or Reward. We caddied here for several years for the LPGA Pro-AM and had wanted to play it. We finally got the chance. It was freezing cold and rained part of the time, but you would never know it by how it played. The tee boxes, fairways and greens were immaculate and despite it being a winter day, we got roll and had a great round. Beautiful, interesting layout, cannot say enough good about this place.

This is a world class golf course, well maintained, very scenic. It is fitting to play this course in autumn because of the name. From tee box to the green was nothing but lush.

Wonderful layout, challenging from the forward tees, very glad we decided to play.

Beautiful course. Unfortunately, it took too long to play 18 holes. There was too much waiting for each hole.
