Harbor at Wild Dunes Golf Links
About
Wild Dunes Harbor Course, designed by Tom Fazio, is said to be cut from some of the prettiest real estate in South Carolina. Water makes up a great deal of the Harbor Course layout. After all, half the course runs along the world’s longest water hazard, The Intracoastal Waterway. Fazio claims the Harbor Course to be one of his favorites. "Working on the Harbor Course was very satisfying to me as a designer because we had to create everything. It was a very challenging, and ultimately, a very satisfying project."

Bring at least 24 balls.
This course has the most narrow fairways I have ever played in my life, and I have played some countries in USA and internationally, but what makes it so complicated is that the roughs are to 80% out of bounds where you will not be able to find your ball (water hazards, swamp or Ocean). I lost 9 balls and I usually finish with my 1st ball, maybe lose 1-2 on a bad day or difficult course. So be prepared. We saw an alligator. On another note, the greens are small and extremely extremely slow, which I disliked.
I will play again just for the challenge of not losing 9 balls!
Poor greens/ bad value for price tag
I was really disappointed in the course. The greens were more than shaggy- in some cases patches of 1” growth stuck out with a different type of grass...and not uniform in length, which meant had to roll though higher length patches on the greens on longer putts. Probably rolled at a 7 on a stimpmeter but even slower in the morning with the dew still on the grass. The tee boxes were also in poor condition and uncut. Cut the greens please.
The fairways are very narrow and lost balls are pretty common if you don’t hit it perfectly straight. For the price tag I expected much much more. Didn’t see any driving ranges to warm up either...maybe I missed it.
Bummed I picked this course on the one day I was able to play on vacation. I thought at $120 it would be a much nicer course.
Brutal Pace
I understand at all golf courses you have to wait from time to time. We were backed up 3 to 4 groups deep because of a group or couple being slow, belligerent, dancing, being loud and screaming. IF 3-4 GROUPS ARE WAITING ON ONE HOLE YOU HAVE A PROBLEM IN THE FRONT. We started at 3:30 and got through 14 holes as we had to quit at 7:20 due to no light. We were starting hole 10 3 hours after we started. For $80 bones at 3pm I would expect not to put up with bs but I guess that doesn’t keep the trash out and nobody at the course were on top of this. I won’t get a refund on the 4 holes I didn’t get to play nor will I know what I actually shot. Needless to say I wasn’t thrilled with my value here as I paid 80 bucks for basically the front 9. I would never pay $200 for the 8am tee time here especially when they let people do whatever they want. Course was in good shape for October.
Greens are horrible and definitely not worth the money
There are MUCH Better courses to play in this area for much less money. Greens are almost lost. Tee boxes are not much better. Was also cart path only making it a horrible day of golf on the harbor course. I hear the other course is in better shape
Solid course
Solid course at Wild Dunes ocean Course. Some Greens and bunkers were like cement, but most were good. I look forward to my next visit!
Nice scenery and course!
Love the harbor side course at Wild Dunes in SC. The course was in excellent condition and the weather (slight overcast) couldn't have been any better. The greens need just a bit of love.. they are stamp size (I mean, like 5 x 10 yds at times) and they could be re-surfaced / seeded. But still - excellent course and very good value! Bring your "A" game; there is more water around the course than you can shake a stick at! :)
Challenging Course
Do not be fooled by the short layout on the scorecard. This course plays long and is very challenging off the tee. I absolutely love the Wild Dunes course, and consider them the best public courses in Charleston. However, make sure you pack a few extra sleeve's.
Juice Not Worth the Squeeze
Move this course 30 minutes inland and it’s $25 a round, plus a sandwich at the turn.
No food or drinks
They did not tell us no food or drinks would be available prior to the round. They had some bottles of water out but did not offer anything else on the course. No water while out on the course. If we had known we would have brought our own.
Shaggy greens!
Beautiful layout and scenery! Bunkers are in poor shape and greens are shaggy and bumpy. I am sure this is due to reduced staff because of The Virus.
This was a joke
So long story short my yearly beach trip to Isle of Palms was ruined when the tee times for the last two weeks still being available and the date today (6-28-20) to find out that they wre still advertising hot deals sending out deals to find out they were not open for COVID 19. It’s a complete joke. It’s so unprofessional I don’t even know if I am on the right island. The standards for first time players has to be better and I’m extremely disappointed in the so called amazing courses unprofessionalism to let genders know of corse cancelations. I’m
