Harbor at Wild Dunes Golf Links
About
Wild Dunes Harbor Course, designed by Tom Fazio, is said to be cut from some of the prettiest real estate in South Carolina. Water makes up a great deal of the Harbor Course layout. After all, half the course runs along the world’s longest water hazard, The Intracoastal Waterway. Fazio claims the Harbor Course to be one of his favorites. "Working on the Harbor Course was very satisfying to me as a designer because we had to create everything. It was a very challenging, and ultimately, a very satisfying project."

Windy Day on the Harbor Course
Overall, I like this course. It causes you to think as there are a holes where positioning is more important than distance. This is definitely a shot-makers course as it is narrow and has plenty of water to swallow up miss directed shot. My only real criticisms concern the conditions of the bunkers which were hard, compacted sand, the amount of casual water, and the weird routing where between the fourth green and fifth tee you have to ride a half mile maze of cart paths. There was one golfer who became so confused that he went from the fourth green to the 13th tee and finished his round from there. The staff was friendly and helpful. I will continue to play here several times each year.
Just average experience
Played the course on a cloudy and windy cold day. Temps never got above 50 degrees. Played with two others who had never played the course and were less than average golfers. Didn't mind since I had my own cart and was out just to experience the course.
The biggest disappointment was the greens. They seemed to have something growing on them that was not the normal grass. Crabgrass? They were terrible and you couldn't putt on many of them. I hope that this is just a seasonal thing.
Very little staff - no beverage cart, nobody to take bag off and on the cart, etc.
Probably not worth the money.
Very Disappointing
The entire experience was disappointing. When we got to the course, the parking lot was closed, so we had to find our way to a garage. I carried my clubs to the drop off area. The attendant did not help me in any way at all. He was not friendly and seemed to be there because he had to be. I checked in and they know I had a rider with me. They charged $25 for the rider, which was not outrageous, other than the course was anything but busy. They did not have a range to warm up on. I drove over to the starter and he let me off early. I followed a 4 some, which quite frankly I did not mind. There was no one behind me until I reached the 17th hole. So much for being busy. The ranger was really friendly and together with the starter, the only people with whom I had a positive interaction. When I finished the round, I brought back the cart and a fellow cleaned my clubs an took them to the drop off rack. From there I had to carry my clubs to my car. They could have let me take the cart to my car, which would have made it easier for me, I cannot blame the course for the weather, but it was cold and somewhat windy. They consider themselves a resort course, but it is not. I have played much better for the price.
Super windy. Front nine is very difficult. No food available onsite
Great course
Super friendly staff - Bag attendants, starter, pro shop staff, and cart girl. All were very friendly and accommodating. Course was challenging and very well maintained and location can’t be beat. My son and I played 36 and can’t wait to come back and play it again.
great course
1st time playing the course. Fairways were green due to grass and not painted which is amazing for this time of year, greens were fast but not as fast as the practice green. Course was a bit tight/narrow in a number of fairways but considering the length, you could score well if you had good ball control. greens rolled true, small but not the smallest in the area. Staff were helpful and friendly. Definitely worth the price for the quality playing conditions.
Fun
Great price w hot deal. Everyone very friendly and welcoming. Starter very nice with course knowledge and tips. Gave me flexible option to play alone or join a twosome. Course in great shape!
Harbor Dunes Rain Day
Staff very friendly and accommodating. Facilities are fairly clean albeit a bit dated and little tired. Surrounding environment/neighborhood is mixed with some well kept areas and others showing serious neglect. Playing surfaces in great condition for the most part. Layout of course is a bit convoluted as it intertwines through neighborhoods. The cart distances between some holes are quite long. Fairways are narrow by contemporary course standards. Overall a reasonably good course 6/10. Weather was a bit dicey so the crowds were not there. Pace of play was great in that regard. A little spendy for value.
Fantastic Round
Great round of golf and even had a gator sighting! Greens were fairly quick and the fairways were in very good shape for January. Beautiful course. There’s no turn so make sure you’ve got everything you need at the start of the round! Really enjoyed the round, though.
Wonderful golf experience
The Wild Dunes Harbor Course is one fine golf course. Beautiful groomed, superb conditions. Sufficiently challenging but fair for a 90’s golfer. Greens we’re running fast since it had a tournament the day before. Holes along inter-coastal waterway are a joy to behold.
Challenging in multiple ways
As the red-headed step-child to the resort’s Links Course, the Harbor Course is still a good challenge. It’s a very tight course with water/OB on nearly every hole. The greens are very, very small. And the winds can be brutal really affecting the ability to keep the ball in play. The course was in great shape and my playing partner made a hole-in-one on #13! That’s not something that happens every day.
The price is average for its quality and relative to nearby courses. But the most confounding part is the course layout and routing. To call it unique is an understatement. The course is squeezed between homes, The distance between 4 & 5 is at least a half a mile thru neighborhoods and across multiple streets. And the turn at 9 is no turn at all but at least two miles from the clubhouse.
Yet when you get past the crazy routing the Harbor Course is a good course worth playing with some memorable holes. The staff is friendly and they work to provide a good experience.
Pretty nice
Dot pay full price. Not quite worth it
Plays more difficult than scorecard indicates. Staff great. Beautiful ares.
Love, Love this course
My husband and I come to Isle of Palms every December for a month. We love playing the Harbor course. It is a beautiful course and a "Thumbs Up" to the maintenance crew.
Tightest course great views!
The course was kept in amazing shape for December, the greens where a lil shaggy but to be expected, I really loved the challenge of the fairways being so small, but the only negative thing I could say is those greens were smaller then a putt putt course, but again it’s own challenge there but had a amazing time, and the cart girl was the sweetest
