Cave Creek Golf Course
About
Cave Creek Golf Course is Phoenix's most popular municipal course, seeing about 100,000 rounds yearly. In 1983, Cave Creek began as a landfill reclamation project. It's a sort of pioneer in environmental design, proving similar spots can find environmentally friendly uses. It's open dawn to dusk, year-round.
Eighteen holes of par-72 golf take golfers over 6,732 yards on the Cave Creek Golf Course, kicking off on the par-4 first hole, which measures 363 yards from the blue tees, before things get long on the second hole, which measures 510 yards from the blue tees. That's just one of four long holes, with the sixth hole measuring 532 yards from the blue tees, the 11th coming in at 521 yards from the blue tees, and the sixth having a distance of 518 yards from the blue tees. The round concludes after a suggested playing time of four hours and 10 minutes on the 18th hole, a par 4 that measures 388 yards from the blue tees.
The city of Phoenix has contracted with several hotel chains to offer stay-and-play packages for golfers at the Cave Creek Golf Course and other municipal tracks.

Terrible planning and course
First off they paired me with walkers when I got a cart, defeated the entire purpose. Secondly the greens were like putting on a shag carpet. Lastly the group they paired me with were only playing 9 holes. So I was a single behind a ton of groups of 4. So I played 10 & 11 and were on people's tail end the entire time. Was waiting more than playing golf. Do better planning don't put people with carts with walkers and a single behind a bunch of foresomes. Will not be coming back to this course. There is to many good courses in the valley.
Tough pin placements
The course was green, the rough was thick (so plan on time searching for your ball if you miss the fairway), the greens were undulating and fast.
Local course
I have played this course many times for over three decades. The course layout is somewhat challenging. The biggest drawbacks were how slow the greens were and the rough areas are not that great.
Cave Creek Golf Course
Great place to play. Course is in good condition and challenging.
Cave Creek
Nice course layout, but greens were in bad condition...just aerated and uncut.
Good summer shape
The course is in good condition for this time of year. The one drawback was they are redoing five tee boxes and had temp tees. Nothing was mentioned on golf now when booking. Had I known I probably would have played elsewhere. The fairways weren’t burnt out and the greens were in great shape. Overall I do recommend this course. Just check to see if tee boxes are done.
Greens are slow, tee boxes under repair.
Temporary tee boxes make for some short par 4s, tees are generally pretty rough at best. Greens are slow but otherwise in decent shape. Typical summer time conditions.
Fun Course
Fun local muni course. Plays well despite the slow pace. No marshals on the course, and lack of golf etiquette made for extreme slow downs and delays. For the value tho a great course with great golf shop stafff.
Course Under Repair
Have played this course since the 70s and became a club member some years ago, back when the cart route from hole 8 to hole 9 required driving on the sidewalk on 19th avenue. Sad to see what’s become of what once was a phenomenal public golf course. Maybe It’ll make a comeback before Jesus returns his Church. 🙏
