Lookout Mountain Golf Club at Pointe Hilton Tapatio Cliffs Resort receives distinctions: Golf Digest placed it among the top 450 U.S. public courses, and it regularly features among Arizona's best 25 golf course. It doesn't hurt that the golf club regularly hosts eye-catching affairs like the Harmon Killebrew Invitational, the Royce Clayton Charity Classic and the Phoenix Suns Scramble. The golf course itself offers lush greens that entwine with the Sonora Desert's terrain, which the golf club says it carefully preserves, and features 18 holes of championship golf in tandem with magnificent scenery and plenty of challenges.

There's a fairly good chance that golfers will catch sight of a quail or coyote out on the Lookout Mountain Golf Club at Pointe Hilton Tapatio Cliffs Resort, and management asks that layers give the critters the right of way. In order to ensure golfers' shots go straight and don't snag in a cactus or chuckwalla, the club offers both individual and group glf lessons. This is also a place to enroll in the Hilton Golf Academy.

That's before the round at the Lookout Mountain Golf Club, though: Afterward, mosey on back to the 19th hole, called the Pointe In Tyme, for the drinkables and eatables.

Great course.

Fairways green. Flags were in tough placements. Greens in excellent condition. Staff 10 stars. Out of Gatorade, but they went to storage and got more. Pace of play was great, 3 hours 20 minutes. Have played course every time I come to Arizona.

Dormant and wet

The valley just received severe rainfall and flooding a couple days ago so wet/soft conditions are expected. The fairways looked dormant, but I fear they may have actually just been dead and the wet conditions were making it feel dormant instead. Greens and tee boxes were good. Bunkers were decent considering the circumstances. This is one day prior to oversees so there won’t be much effort. Staff was friendly.

Dawn you Pete Dye!

What a course! New favorite desert/target golf course, short but very challenging Fluffy green grass in September makes us happy. These greens... take an extra 5-7 seconds to process "Where is the break that I DON'T see?" Especially if ya done good and left yourself 10ft below the hole. Pete made it really hard to 1-putt but lots of fun to take on!

Rough

Overall, disappointed with Lookout Mountain. We paid $85 for a 9ish am tee time in late June, so I expected the course to be in pretty good shape. Some of the fairways were plugged. Most of the fairways were 50% dirt, 50% grass at best. The greens were so bumpy I thought I was watching the NBA finals. The sprinklers were drenching the #10 tee box and us while we were teeing off. If the course is going to be in this condition, for late June golf in Phoenix, the price should be half of what it was at most.

Terrible course conditions

I understand it’s the middle of the summer, but I had called the Proshop ahead and they said the greens don’t get any better. If that’s the case, then you never wanna play here. Inconsistent speeds, super bumpy. They had the volcano effect because the cups were cut incorrectly. The tee markers were not even set on the flattest areas of the tee box. Lastly, the golf carts were smothered in armor all, my grips were slipping all day long because of this. The course conditions cost me an easy 4 to 5 strokes.

Nice course

Played on a very hot day, temps at about 114 degrees. Had the course to myself until running into a 4-some at around #15. Played great and almost aced # 11, ball 6" behind hole. Course in great shape and quite challenging from blue tees.

Course was always in good shape even in July and August.. hadn’t played it in over a year won’t be back. Conditions of the fairways are horrible. Spending $ 85 bucks when it’s not worth it ..

New top 5!

What a fun course! First time here was told by the starter that the first 6 holes are the scoring holes and he wasn't wrong! The rest of the course gets very challenging around the peaceful desert with some of the coolest elevated views and tees I've seen! New top 5 local course for me, will be back often especially now that I have a better idea if how to attack the last 5 holes 🏜
