Championship at Moon Valley Country Club
About
Moon Valley Country Club's Championship course features excellent conditions and a spot in Arizona's long golf tradition on a par-72 18-hole course first designed by Dick Wilson and redesigned by Bob Cupp and Associates. This golf course challenges all levels, playing 5,285-7,216 yards.
Moon Valley Country Club's Championship course begins on a par-4 371-yarder, requiring a drive left to see the green: bunkers guard front and left. The fourth is a par-5 511-yarder. Shoot a birdie. Keep the tee shot away from the right fairway bunker. Close on the 411-yard, par-4 18th, which requires an accurate drive to miss bunkers right and trees and water left. You'll face the course's most intimidating shot: a two-tiered green, featuring a left side four feet higher than the right, 15 yards deep. It's guarded front back by bunkers. The hole location on the right is difficult.
Bunkers block a green sloping front to back, making it tough to stop the ball on the surface.

GOLF COURSE VERY FLAT
GOLF COURSE VERY FLAT
BUT PAR 4 no easy
golf couse between house all the time
A private course worth playing once.
Watch out for the creek in front of number 9 green!
Wonderful, but!!
A fantastic place to play, so relaxed and with a great course layout. The downside would be that there are areas of the course that need beautifying
Greens = 5*
Fairways = 3.5*
Tee Boxes = 5*
Traps = 1* (little sand, if not rock clay in places.)
This is also a hard course to find your way around as there are no signs, and not many yardage markers.
Good value but an old track in need of some attention. Lots of bare spots on fairways.
Central location...some terrific holes and many ordinary ones. Need sand in bunkers.Allows walking!
Course is in great shape
We were members during the 80's when Ping was owner.
Poorly marked for hole directions and they have a double green.
This course has changed since that time but it is in Great Shape.
A bit slow due to current owner/players. They did hold us up and did not want us to play through even as a twosome. Fairly rude foursome of older men.
the greens were excellent and reasonably fast
An older Phoenix course, in great condition and very good greens. Not much desert here to deal with. Would be good
course for people who don't carry the ball very far, but also good for the long hitters.
nice to play a course in the desert that is not a desert course.
the course was in really good shape and although it winds through the homes in Moon Valley they are set back from the fairways. Liked the fact that the rough was rough and not desert gravel. Multiple tees accomodate the big hitters and the women plus everybody in between. One suggestion would be to add some directional signs for newcomers as our group got lost a few times between greens and the next tee.
Country Club Course at municipal course rate!
The course was a great value. Challenging, but fair. The fairways and greens were in great condition. I would highly recommend this course to anyone. I hope that it stays semi-private.
This is a historic course with interesting greens
I was concerned because I had heard rumors of bad course conditions. I found the course well maintained - not pristine but the fairways were good, sand fair and greens challenging. I was in between 3 and 4 stars. I rounded up because I had fun and found it interesting.
wonderful parkland setting in the desert
Greens smooth, medium speed must read well and execute
Fairways in great condition and must be played to correct
sides (areas) Huge mature trees create challenge and
definition. Super value course which I recommend
Excellant facility
Facility was excellent, Driving range and clubhouse were very nice, staff was friendly and the couse was in good conition. Very nice routing.
No signage directions!
We came onto the course as visiting first timers. No signage as to where to go for each hole. We had to ask other golfers several times. Scorecard had no diagrams of hole. Two of the holes shared the same green, but with two pins. Yardage was on the scorecards but no where on the golf course. Crossing the street there should be a crosswalk or indication of crossing golf carts, but maybe that can wait until there is an accident.
Very Slow Play
Value and Rating would have been GREAT and EXCELLENT except that the course allowed a 5some that was walking on the course (in front of us). After 4 hours and 14 holes I gave up and left. If you manage to avoid slow walkers and slow 5somes or at least encounter ones that will allow you to play through, you will totally enjoy this golf course. Also, take a scope or some sort of yardage device because there are few markers if any on or in the fairways and distances from the tee boxes to the fairway bunkers and corners on the dog legs would be hard to determine without one (not even a reference picture on the score card).
Tees, fairways, and greens
Not sure why people give bad reviews because 40 yards off the fairway along out of bounds property lines there is dirt. The course is in excellent shape where you're supposed to be, and even within 20 yards off the fairways. I played TPC Stadium the last 2 weekends and the greens at Moon Valley are better! Not a lot of play means not a lot of ball marks that people don't repair. This is still a private course, they are just opening up a few tee times to Golf602 and at $59, it's a steal for Phoenix in the winter! Go play this course...the greens make the course worth it.
Course in great shape - greens were awesome!
I have not played this course before and saw the tee times on Golf Now - decided to give it a try and was not disappointed. The course is a challenging layout with a few long and short par 4's as well as some challenging par 3's. The greens were in FANTASTIC shape and rolled extremely well. If you get a chance to play this course I highly recommend it.
same as my review
old school country club feel, fairways good not great, greens perfect and fast and true. lay out great. just like playing a very nice country club from the midwest, every hole very defined.
REally like play the course and will come back
We could not understand why the course was not receiving more play. We were the only ones out there.
Good Value with Good Greens
Great deal from Golfnow.com. Good parkland style course with fast and tricky greens. A little tough to get to without GPS in your vehicle. Beer cart only showed up once, but a pleasant round nonetheless.
The course played fast and firm after overseeding.
The greens rolled smoothly and held approaches from 210 yards out. The conditions were quite good, care was taken with greenside bunkers and run off areas. While I played in the afternoon the fairways were dry enough for a little run on drawn tee shots. Walking is like a day in the park. The club has cut down on watering in several areas that don't come in play unless you duck hook a drive. But the overall tee shot target areas and near by fairway bunkering are beautifully prepped, fast and firm after overseeding.
This course is beautiful and a must play.
I have wanted to play this course for years. I caught it after reseeding for a deeply discounted price. The service from the curb to the course was amazing. Hands down this was the best condition course after a reseeding that I have ever played. The greens were excellent. The areas being worked on were clearly marked so no unnecessary penalties. Unfortunately, I didn't have a good day on the course. My only complaint and it is pretty standard in Phoenix was the pace of play. I believe you should have to prove handicaps to play back tees. I expect a low double digit to single digit handicap player if you want to play other than white tees. I watched some guy hit two fairways the whole day playing the blue tees. How can that be fun?
