Good course, good value
First time playing at Brickshire and I was pleasantly surprised. Course was in really good shape minus the bunkers as mentioned below, although I actually had decent lies each time I found myself in one. Fairways were in great shape, as were the greens. Course has drained well as most of my lies in the fairway and rough we’re clean and not too muddy.
Design was interesting, too. Not really any throw away holes and plenty of visually appealing approaches. Challenging but fair. Some wide fairways, some tight ones. Course seems to play longer than the yardage (Burgundy tees played all of the 6700 on the card). Par 3s in particular play long and none of the par 5s felt like “birdie” holes. I might recommend playing a tee forward than usual if you’re > than a 10 handicap. This is random but the houses on the course are also surprisingly really nice.
Overall, for $65 on a beautiful fall morning, I felt like I got exactly what I paid for. The design and conditions are pretty comparable to Independence, but you don’t have to spent $110 and play a 6 hour round.
Great layout & pace....
Hey what a nice course. Layout terrific and friendly to the average golfer.
Bunkers unplayable, better description would be ponds. Seen frogs jumping in them. Course was wet and sloppy. A mudders dream.
Greens were fabulous and fast for the amount of rain. .
Can't wait to play it again when it dries out.
Highly recommend you take the drive to play this gem.
Love this course
The only reason I gave it 4 stars for overall was because most if not all bunkers are unplayable. Water or all Mud . Otherwise the course is in great shape. Been there a lot and will continue to go.
Would definitely play again!
The course was in great condition. The landing areas are very generous for all levels of players. I think this is a very fair while challenging golf course. The rough was thick in places and required some skill to hit the ball. But there should be a cost for missing the generous fairways. I saw some previous comments about the poor condition of the bunkers. We did not find that to be the case. The bunkers were groomed and in good shape.this is a very enjoyable place to play golf!
Can't wait to return!
The course layout is great for a mid handicap. Beautiful layout, lots of trees and flowers. Long cart path rides through the woods between holes. Don't try to walk it!
Brickshire has potential
Bunkers are muddy and unplayable. Greens were just aerated so very bumpy. Otherwise a nice course which could be a lot better.
great condition
very fun course. i like all the courses in the new kent area. viniterra, royal new kent and brickshire are very very nice courses.
very green and pretty course
no dead spots at all. loved playing this course. can’t wait to play it again. par 3’s were all about 150 from the white tees. some short par 4s. very fun course. tough bunkers, but luckily i avoided most of em. good place to play.
Been a Long Time...
I haven''t played Brickshire for years. I played with a member (Barry) who was a great "tour guide" around the course and gave pointers on the greens and where to hit. He gave us fair warning that the bunkers were bad--we should play them as GUR. He was right--they are in bad shape, but I expected that given the heads up. Barry told us the residents purchased the course two years ago and have put a lot of money into it (just haven't gotten to the bunkers yet). It really shows, as the course is the best I've seen it. The fairways are in excellent condition, and the greens are sneaky...you play for a break and it doesn't, or you play it straight and it breaks! A bit deceiving, but running true and at a good pace. I really DID NOT like the rough. It is very thick and lush, but the ball falls to the roots and are easily loss. Hitting out of it takes all the might you have! Easily, I picked up an extra 5-6 strokes trying to get out of that stuff! All in all, though, great course for the money, course in great condition (staying on the fairway), and the layout is one of the more challenging with elevation changes and sloping fairways. Congratulations to the members, Casper Golf for their management, and the Super for the care of the course. Once they get the bunkers back into shape, Brickshire will rival some of the other Williamsburg area courses.
Over 100 degrees
Course in very good condition considering low rainfall and high heat. Layout requires shot positioning to score well. Rough quite thick in places penalizing off fairway shots, Will be playing again tomorrow, hopefully for same price.
