Played RNK for the first time in 12 years. Layout is a blast if you like Strantz courses.

Staff extremely friendly. Unfortunately, VA has had a tough spring with little rain and the course conditions were marginal at best. The greens rolled pretty good but they have a lot of bare spots. The fairways were hit and miss....some were fine and some had a lot of winterkill. I hope they get some rain and cooler temps. If you know what you are walking into you'll enjoy it....if you are expecting pristine conditions then find another course to play.

Have played this course at least a couple times a year. First time this year in 2026. A crazy amount of fungus, dead grass, and painted green dirt on fairways and greens. Course is usually difficult with the amount of blind shots but the care for the course makes up for it. Sadly it was not the case this time. Placed food order at 8 tee box for the turn & when we went in, proceeded to be told that only two items were on the turn menu now and needed to be reordered. Posted menus and drinks were incorrect & a let down. A once fun course to drive to play is now not worth the time or $. Pace of play was great though for Thursday morning.

This was rated one of the top "must plays" in the Richmond area. Teed off at 8:30 in the morning to avoid the rain that's coming around noon. The course layout is every difficult for the average gofer (I'm a 12 handicap), it gets frustrated after 9 holes. prepare to loose a few balls for the round. The course was not in very good condition especially the greens, very spotty, dead patches on every green, and putts are very jumpy.

Great layout and a challenging course. Not sure if it was due to the drought here in the middle of May but the fairways were struggling and many of the greens looked very bad. Most of the cart paths give you the impression this course was forgotten about 10 years ago. If this place got a little money put into it it would be an amazing course.

The course layout is great. Greens were fast. Due to a severe drought in Va the course was pretty dry and brown. Hopefully we get some rain soon to green it up.

Royal New Kent is an amazing course with risk and reward. The greens are treacherous, but you can overcome them. THeers not a thing i don't like about this course. The winter was tough in Va, so all courses are on the mend, and this course was no different. With a few more weeks and some rain, this course will be at the top of the quality list again. That said, if you can get a tee time, do not hesitate. Got get yourself Stranz'd

I played New Kent at least 20 times from 1995-1999, while our daughter was in school at William and Mary, and it was one of my favorite courses. I have loved all of the Mike Stranz designs. I last played here in 2009 and was excited to experience the course again. The layout is still fantastic, so I still enjoyed the round, but it is obvious that the maintenance has deteriorated. The people were friendly, but it just wasn’t top quality.

What a gorgeous course; each hole pretty much lays out stand alone; its a links style course with each tee box providing a varying degree of difficulty. Feels like its about 400 acres of beautiful views and undulations everywhere. Definitely a challenge that you should experience and enjoy. The pace of play was great. Played as a twosome with a great friend and we will remember this for years to come. We plan to return next year and year after year. Actually decided to play here because it was a course we were able to play on my friend's Rhapsodo golf monitor. a few times on the simulator made the first time great.

It's still early in the season. As a result, the tee boxes, fairways, and rough were not in tip-top condition, most likely due to the Bermuda not yet greening up and the drought conditions in the area. For the most part, the greens were fine.

With that said, I would still recommend playing the course. Every hole is a challenge, so make sure you tee off from the appropriate tees for your skill level.

Firdt times shoudl be given an overview of the course (ie how the on screen computers can be most effectively used).

Needs an investment in rakes for the huge number so bunkers. 1 rake per bunker does not cut it.

Mike Stranz gave us golf unlike anything that came before. RNK is no exception. The course is a blast to play, but make sure you play at a distance you can handle. It might be impossible from the tips. Every hole is different and requires thoughtful play.

Conditions were not great, which is not surprising given RNK’s rocky financial history. The superintendent should be ashamed at the lack of detail work and general sloppiness. Tee boxes are littered with broken tees (I went off early.. there should have been almost none). Sand containers on the range had no scoops. Carts are rundown.

On the plus side, staff is friendly/helpful and the price paid (HotDeal) made this round a bargain.

Had my eye on this Mike Strantz design and it exceeded my expectations. first time on any course can be a challenge. Royal New Kent did not disappoint. Winter conditions gave it a four out of five for conditions.. it was a little pricey for me but I took it on. Twists and turns abound study the yardage book and take the double when you can. There are triples out there’m
