This is the monster of all monsters, the one that carries so many folktales of golfer terror with it that it should qualify as its own myth. The developers asked Pete Dye to make this "the toughest golf course in the world" and many argue he succeeded. Too well.

The Stadium Course at PGA WEST in La Quinta is one of those tracks that any self-respecting golf nut has to play once. Just to experience it. Just to say you did. Just to have stories of golf cruelty to tell at the office water cooler. There's a 19-foot deep bunker on the 16th hole. That's right. A 19-foot deep bunker. Your ball won't get out. Heck, you might not get out. From the back tees it measures 7,300 yards with an incredible 148-slope rating.

Every hole is a story waiting to be told. Either in success to be bragged about or failure to be even more bragged about. The PGA players moaned about this course so loud that it's no longer a regular stop on tour. Yet for average hackers, it's often a joy of punishment. Go in with the right attitude and it's liable to be one of your most unforgettable days of golf.

Challenging course

It was windy so my perception about how challenging this course is might be off. Bunkers are stupid deep but sand was good so we got out of them. Do not go left or long on your approach shot on 16, About half the holes are water holes. The course plays long so unless you drive the ball 300+ I would play the white tees. The greens were faster and had more break than what most of the other Coachella Valley courses have. We had a blast and will go back again soon.

Course was in good condition.

The course was in good condition; not great. I would have thought as a PGA tournament course and the price to play the course it would have been in better condition. Also, you have to wait on the range to hit ball to warmup.

Perfection in every way

I golf all over the US at some really nice places of all price ranges and this place is a ten. I was treated awesome and made welcome, check in was easy and courteous, practice area was beautiful grass and unlimited balls. there was sand traps and multiple greens. The fairways were in terrific shape along with greens collars and approaches. Even the Tee boxes were well taken care of. I do like the green divot fill sand as well, its just an additional touch of class. The GPS worked great on the cart and the pace of play was normal for a resort course being a little over 4 hours and starting right on time. The greens rolled out at around 10-11 and held a ball perfectly, Got a deal on golf now but would pay more for future plays. I will be back!

Phenomenal Condition

Played two days after the American Express. Therefore, the course was in impeccable condition. Challenging layout with a lot of water and famously deep bunkers. Important to be smart off the tee. Driver isn’t always the best play. Lots of rain before we played certainly took some of the speed out of the greens. Still quick, but definitely not as fast (or brutal) as they typically are. Played in four hours and fifteen minutes. Staff was very friendly. Definitely recommend.

Played this course before the PGA tour event, thought the greens were poor all in all third time playing here better deals out there definitely not worth the full price

Great course, weak players

Played the Stadium course a week after the AMX. Unfortunately ahead of us we’re 4 guys playing country music and hitting duffs off the blue tees. They weren’t even good enough for the whites. Played so slow we barely made 18 before dark. 5 hour round, took so much away from the great course
