Blustery day at the golf course. On top of that, It had rained pretty good earlier in the day so not many players out. First time playing Canyon Lakes so impression was that the layout had a mixture of blind shots, narrow alleyways (used my fairway finder clubs on the tee box on several par 4s and 2 of the par 5s) as well as design traps ( layups are needed at times). Tee boxes were in okay shape, most of the fairways were good. Sand traps were full. The only knock I would say is the greens have ball mark craters all over them. But this is not due to the greens turf weave that is used (which is very good btw) or the greens keepers. It is largely due to the etiquette issue seen all over Northern California and the golf world - make a ball mark on a green - fix your golf mark properly plus another ! Seriously people, stop ruining your place of enjoyment and take a minute to preserve the dance floors for you next time and for your future golf buddies. Brewery and restaurant was closed, staff was nice. If you play here, make sure you practice your punch shot and your short game as the rough around the greens can be sticky - bunkers come into play a lot if you don't lay up on your approach. Fun course...will return again.
Getting better all the time, BUT….1
This course’s new(er) management is definitely putting inthe effort to get this course up to par (pun apology issued) and it shows. There are, however, several areas where more diligent efforts are required. First and foremost, the greens. They’re still too bumpy and need to be mowed and rolled. And those traps! What can I say? They’ve improved several but there are many more to be done. Hard dirt is NOT sand.
Great day at Canyon Lakes!
Staff was awesome. Starter was hilarious and very helpful. Course is in very good condition. Tee boxes and fairways are continuing to get better. Still some dry patches. Greens were a in good shape except bumpy due to people NOT fixing their ball marks. UGGG!!!
Will definitely be back!
Don’t waste you money
This course has really fallen off. For what you’re paying, it should be a lot nicer and run better. There are far better selections in the Bay Area. The pace of play is not enforced so you better bring a lot of water, beer, cigars, and a lunch for your 51/2 or 6 hour round. Maybe throw in a zoom call or something. I watched several groups quit today, as we did, after 9 because the backup was ridiculous.
The greens are in good shape but the fairways are tore up with gopher holes and not well maintained. Too bad this course slipped. It’s a challenging course with some nice views on the back. I would only consider this course a last resort if everything else is booked.
The food is awesome.
canyon lakes
Great course. Plenty of water and hard greens.
The pace of play was very good but yhe course has a hitch in their system. 40 bucks to walk it and 54 with a cart. This course has the longest distance between holes I've ever seen. Probably adds a third the distance by walking it. If you get caught behind a walker you're stuck.
The off course amenities could be improved. It's supposed to also be a brewery. I would say it's more of a restaurant that might make beer. There really isn't a club house aw much as a nice place to take the girl out for dinner. The food was OK, tasty but presentation definitely took priority over quantity. Felt more like one of those high end restaurants that leave you wondering what cost so much and where was the rest of it.
Anyhow it was a good course, well maintained, helpful staff and they have the cart girl.
Enjoyed the challenging course layout
Layout of the course is great and also fun riding the cart throughout. Bunkers had good soft sand, but the grass condition was not really that great. It will also be nice to provide a course map.
