Maderas Golf Club is one of San Diego's most popular courses. Although it is less than an hour from Torrey Pines, it has a stunning landscape and challenging design that rivals that of the famed seaside course. Maderas may not have the ocean views, but its beautiful landscape provides just as much scenery. Nestled inland amongst rolling hills, the golf course weaves through rocky cliffs and outcroppings. There are mature trees throughout as well as a meandering creek and over forty acres of native wildflowers. There are three sparkling lakes and five waterfalls that come into play on the course. The demanding layout features difficult greens that are large and lightning fast. Several tricky uphill and downhill lies can be found throughout Maderas Golf Club thanks to the hilly terrain.

First round at Maderas

Regarding course numerous challenging par 4s wind through the Poway canyons. Greens are large with some undulations but run pure. Fairways primarily in front of you just a couple with visual misperceptions making it hard to see landing spots and sharp doglegss require your attention so not to run through fairway. The staff and service was top notch. Pro shop very easy to reach and communicate with schedule changes. Plenty of golf gear avaliable for purchase. Food and bar available as well.

Overhyped & Way Overpriced

Listen, this course is good, but it’s nowhere near what they are asking. $280-$325 this weekend?! Stop it. This is the type of course that overcharges for what they are and gives golf a bad name. They also seem to be buying reviews. No way this course rates 5 stars. If that’s the case, these people rating it don’t know what a great golf course is. Smh

Best courses in San diego

"If you're looking for a challenging golf course near San Diego, this is the top pick. Expect fast greens that are tough to read, and fairways with tricky undulations. Every tee shot is a test of skill, and playing here feels like you're constantly solving complex problems."

Great course

Really enjoyed playing here. The course conditions were great. Some challenging holes. The course Marshall helped the pace of play by having the slow group in front of us skip a hole- kudos to him.

Tough but beautiful

The course is very picturesque. Tough track. Have to have your “A” game on. Greens are tough. Highly recommended. The course layout and scenic views do make up for a bad round. Will definitely play it again

Always a gem

Maderas, though expensive, is always pristine and an absolute treat to play. And when you do play, allow yourself time for some food, which is always on par with the course!

Lives Up to Its Reputation

Had a 1250 p.m. tee time on a Sunday afternoon with a GolfNow Hot deal at $136. Although it can be a significant drive for people that live in Orange County, the drive became more and more justified the longer I played the round. An attentive staff was there to welcome and show guests the different amenities including the pro shop, complimentary driving range (if you have a tee time), restaurant, and putting greens. The course is arguably the most beautiful in San Diego with an equally sharp bite in terms of its difficulty. With demanding tee shots that punish errant shots but well manicured fairways that reward well-placed shots, Maderas boasts a course rating from the tips that is 3.2 strokes over a par of 72; which can also be attributed to tricky greens (rarely a flat green with plenty of false fronts/surfaces that may funnel a putt off the green) and hazards/obstructions from the area's natural beauty. Even if the round is tough, each hole has features worth taking photos. I eagerly ook forward to having another opportunity to play this great course!

Perfection made public

Glad this course is public. It was a golfers treat for sure. You get friendliness from the greeting to the food to the farewell. I would go back without a doubt. BRS
