Maderas Golf Club is one of San Diego's most popular courses. Although it is less than an hour from Torrey Pines, it has a stunning landscape and challenging design that rivals that of the famed seaside course. Maderas may not have the ocean views, but its beautiful landscape provides just as much scenery. Nestled inland amongst rolling hills, the golf course weaves through rocky cliffs and outcroppings. There are mature trees throughout as well as a meandering creek and over forty acres of native wildflowers. There are three sparkling lakes and five waterfalls that come into play on the course. The demanding layout features difficult greens that are large and lightning fast. Several tricky uphill and downhill lies can be found throughout Maderas Golf Club thanks to the hilly terrain.

Country Club Feel and Service

I played Maderas for the first time and was impressed. I played Torrey Pines South and was equally impressed with the layout. Bring your A game. Plenty of slopes and length to challenge all skill levels.

Great course

Course played excellent and staff was awesome. Price makes it a “special occasion”round but accurately reflected the quality of the course. Will do it again.

Shower is disgusting, slow play

Shower is disgusting for that kind of money and it was slower than a sloth at San Diego Zoo in terms of Pace. Mentioned to the pro shop pro and he could care less. Said, "sorry you paid $120 to play a slow course."

Great Course - Ruined by Rushed and Rude Management

Long story short – Great Course, Experience was soured/overshadowed by rushed and rude management.

Tee time was 7:10am, only one of two times available, the other being 7:00am. Starter letting our 4-some know no one was behind us because they had a work / social event tournament that started at 12:00pm. He informed us they need the carts back ASAP as they’re apparently signed to some guests who were playing the tournament. Noted. We’re off playing and we notice that the golf course is setting up this tournament, with canopy’s even on the tee boxes. Whatever, we’ll accommodate and move back or forward a tee box if necessary.

The Marshall proceeds to pull up to us on every other hole letting us know we’re behind the pace of play and they need the carts back for this tournament. He claims we’re 30 minutes behind pace and we’re on pace for a 5.5 hour round.. Blatant lie just to get us to speed up and rush back, our carts never said we were more than 11 minutes behind pace. We’d see this guy sitting on the side of the fairway just watching us play for about 4 or 5 holes. Sometimes out of his cart with hand on his hip reminding us to hurry up for his tournament.

We get to hole number 8, and right as I am about to tee off and going into my back swing and the Marshall drives right in front of us (15 feet in front of the tee box) while our carts are right before the tee box in plain sight. He’s driving through to set up canopy’s and signs for this tournament oblivious to us.

To cap everything off, we finish the round in 4 hours 39 minutes, only 9 minutes behind pace at 11:55. Driving back to the cars, Marshall and the cart guys stop us at just outside the pro shop saying we need to stop there for the carts. I say “guys, we’re just going to drop our bags off at our cars.” They pause and they say that the carts will stop working once you hit the black top so we have to stop there. 3 cart boys start rushing over to us, grabbing our things out and we start lugging our golf bags about 300 yards away to our cars. Sure enough, I see several guys from this tournament driving through the parking lot back to their vehicles. These guys just kick us out of our carts so we have to walk back after a long day.

Quite frankly, I do not care about your tournament. It is not our fault that this course scheduled two tee times before the tournament started. We paid about $250- $300 each to play, plus a dozen balls. The complete rudeness to rush us what seemed the entire time and put unnecessary pressure because your failure to plan accordingly was appalling. For a course whose price point is this high, you would think they had lessons in courtesy and manners. And to lie about the carts getting shut off on the blacktop just to save 2 minutes was utterly ridiculous. I’ve played hundreds of courses, and this is by far the most disrespect I have gotten from staff or a Marshall. The course was great, but mentally was rattled by the disrespect and rudeness that it soured our entire experience. Price point not worth it, better course management in the area for better prices. Play it once, don’t need to go back.

Great challenging course

Course was in great shape, greens were running true even after they were punched just a couple weeks ago. A tough test of golf, very demanding off the tee.

Superior course and views. Highly recommend.

As soon as you arrive staff are so friendly and helpful. Stunning course and views around the course. The course is extremely well maintained. Two holes a Marshall advised us where to hit and was a ball spotter to maintain pace of play. This was great as makes have to tee off over a large area of bush but there are drop zones on other side. All holes are interesting with elevation, water or bunkers. We did loss a few balls so bring extra. Highly recommend this course would visit again.

Great experience.

Played two days in a row and the course was in great shape. Fairways and greens well maintained. Course is tough, especially reading the greens, but it’s fair and the staff is great. CC type experience.

Will be back whenever I’m in San Diego.
