Maderas Golf Club
About
Maderas Golf Club is one of San Diego's most popular courses. Although it is less than an hour from Torrey Pines, it has a stunning landscape and challenging design that rivals that of the famed seaside course. Maderas may not have the ocean views, but its beautiful landscape provides just as much scenery. Nestled inland amongst rolling hills, the golf course weaves through rocky cliffs and outcroppings. There are mature trees throughout as well as a meandering creek and over forty acres of native wildflowers. There are three sparkling lakes and five waterfalls that come into play on the course. The demanding layout features difficult greens that are large and lightning fast. Several tricky uphill and downhill lies can be found throughout Maderas Golf Club thanks to the hilly terrain.

tough course
A severe golf course with many challenging features - canyons, water, mounds and odd bounces. Good fun!
Service and equipment did not meet the price tag
We paid good tee fee for this course but hen was told that tips was mandatory right off the bat before we even get onto our carts. Also, the cart we had was horrible. It was slow where there is no hills and also added more time to play a round of golf. Please upgrade carts.
Surprise Fees
One of the great courses you can play in San Diego County. A true gem that we are lucky to live in close proximity. It was especially fun since the wind was out of the northeast that day. We signed up on the Golf Pass App and the rate was $199. At he course two fees were added: an $11.45 water surcharge and a $10.00 bag handling fee. The bag handling was a fifteen foot walk from the bag drop to the cart. Are they afraid people will pay $199 but not $219? I normally will let the bag boys clean the clubs and then tip them, but the baggage handling fee rubbed me the wrong way So no cleaning and no tip.
Love Maderas!
Course is in great condition. Greens are quick so be careful of putting too much spin on the ball and stay below the pin! Was charged a $5 bag fee in the golf shop that goes to the outside operations staff, which is new from the previous number of times I’ve played Maderas and was not asked to pay a bag fee. Already have another tee time booked at Maderas for this Sunday.
Great course and staff…amazing views
The course was in great condition, especially the greens. The staff was exceptional and very helpful from the moment I pulled in to the property. Golf carts were immaculately maintained as well. The practice greens and driving range were close to the clubhouse and #1 tee box, which was great.
My only feedback was that the greens fees were pretty steep. Not to say it wasn’t worth it, just that I would have expected them to be around $135-150 and not over $200.
Also, my shoes will never be the same….they were “painting” the fairways green while I was playing and I now have a permanent green ring around the bottom of my shoes. So I guess I will always remember my round there when I look down at my shoes and see the green;)
Amazing course! We loved our time out there. The greens were wicked today, and it was tough to putt, but overall really fun!
#7 Par 3
First hole in one
The layout and view are fantastic
Highly suggest for intermediate golfers on up
Best course in SD
Certainly not a weekly course just given price. But you really get what you pay for at Maderas. Course was in excellent shape especially considering it was towards the end of the golf season. Staff is ridiculously friendly. Lots of sloped shots, greens are extremely fast, but just a beautiful course that lives up to the price.
Marshall is rude
First group off at 7:00 and we got warned on the 7th hole that we were 1 minute behind pace. The group in back of us wasnt even close to us on the 6th hole and was never waiting on us. Not sure why we got the warning from the marshall. First 5 holes were played in fog so maybe you dont send groups out to slow pace of play. You delyed groups a few months ago for frost delay but nit fog? For $240 you absolutely make sure that the first group out isnt behind and IMO 1 minute behind isnt making an impact on the course. Wont be back because of the marshall and $240. Pechanga is a better place to golf, top notch facility and price is set at $150 all the time. Maderas isa $120-$130 at best
What a treat
Decided to treat the wife and I to really nice golf course while in the San Diego area, and was not disappointed. Beautiful location, very hilly, and a beautiful day. The starter was a big help in giving us the necessary pointers to help us play the course well. Decided to move forward one tee box, what a help since we had never played here. Course was in very good condition, except for the fact that people don’t know what fixing ball marks is all about on the greens. When you put your drive in the right spot you will be rewarded with huge down hills on some hills. All of the staff were very friendly. Accuracy is very important on a course like this.
