Pitiful
I've played here for years with a 'grin and bear it' attitude. Im not the type who needs luxurious amenities when i golf, and in years past, pinetuck had surprisingly good greens. Not anymore.
When the cart path disintegrated and a sink hole emerged two summers ago on the 11th hole, i thought that was something they'd probly fix in the off season. It's still there and it still looks like a couple neighborhood children could disappear in there at any time.
Fairways are 95% dirt on some holes, with only square inch patches of crabgrass pockmarking hundreds of yards of total crap.
The formerly good greens are totally busted now too. Huge burnt out areas, potholes - yes literally potholes - on some greens.
If you get a deal for less than $10 here, who am i to tell you not to play? 50 cents a hole is a good deal just to get out of the house, i agree. If you pay $30 to play here, though, definitely write it off on your taxes as a charitable donation.
It's too bad. I used to stand up for this place when my buddies all said it sucked. Now i just have to agree w them, which is difficult, because they're dumb southerners.
Good layout / bad condition
I am sure this was a nice course in the 1970 but it has fallen on hard times, trap are unplayable and cart path is destroyed!
Course
Was so disappointed. Drove 40 mintues to get there. Was told we could go out whenever we wanted. Only had 2 guys. No starter. Course was the worst I ever scene. No tee box signs, had no idea where to start. Think we started on 1. Every hole no signs for distance, or hole we where on. Scorecards no picture of hole. Had to guess on doglegs if we couldn’t see pin. Sewer water on at least half the holes. In reality the course should be shutdown until improvements are made. Not one sand trap had sand all weeds. It’s was by far the worst I’ve seen. If you live on it you can play for free. Just walk on and start playing. No ranger nothing. Can’t believe they are actually open. Greens where just as bad
Rough
Very poor condition
Bad fairway and greens.
Pace was good.
Cart almost died.
Top 5 course both ways.
I have probably played over a 1000 golf courses up-and-down the East Coast. I would say Pinetuck may be in my top five golf course designs i've ever played. Sadly it is also in the top 5 worst conditioned course I have played.
I paid less than $50 for my wife and I to play including cart. Looking at the houses that surrround Pinetuck, I cannot believe this course has not been found by, a developer or a golf management management team to take this couse over. There is 1/2 million residences with in 50 moles of Pinetuck, and I believe with the right owner it could be in the top 10 best courses in South Carolina.
Many will disagree, but only because they can not see pass the conditions and the thousands of beer cans littering the great golf course.
Cheap and Accessible, but…
You get what you pay for. I take my boys here because you can’t play anywhere else in the Charlotte area for less than $70 on the weekends.
I have played several times this winter and it has served the purpose of getting my sons back into the game and not breaking the bank.
The course operates on a shoestring budget and it shows, but the fact that I can get a tee time late in the week and the three of us can play and hit a bucket of balls for $100 is the trade off.
Nice folks and it’s never too busy.
Just Ok
Very old course with very old equipment. Greens are horrid and the rest of the course is sad for the most part. You can tell it was a nice place years ago. Course could use some signage too to make the layout clear. One truly dangerous spot where the cart path crosses the road and there is no warning and we found ourselves in the middle of the road before we realized it. Put up a sign guys! It's golf in the end but it leaves a lot to be desired.
