Nice course tucked away from the city
The Greens were in great shape. Being a Little further out from the city the fairways and tee boxes are in great shape.
I don’t like giving a review like this, but
Course needs a lot of work from tees (lots of thin spots) to greens (no grass, bare areas), including bunkers (weeds & no sand). Fire ant mounds are everywhere. You literally have to watch where you walk, EVERYWHERE...
i can’t imagine what it was like in the past because I was told by a player that conditions have improved. Too bad because it has potential of being a really good course.
good enough
The course wont blow you away but it is good for what it costs. Paid about 25 bucks on a hot deal. Some of the holes are really pretty and others are forgettable. A couple holes are very well maintained and a few have some dirt patches in the greens, likely from some kind of disease or drought. Not too crowded on most days and most players I've come across at pinetuck will gladly let you play through. All in all, not a bad course for what it costs.
Good Beginners Course
Great place to learn. Needs a lot of maintenance but is coming around.
Conditions needs work.
I'll played this course quite a few times over the years, and it seems that the course conditions has slowly deteriorated. Don't think I'll be playing there again anytime soon
Skip It
Worst course I've played in 15 years of playing. Nearly every green was covered with dead grass, fairways and tee boxes were a mess, and the rest of the place is just run down.
Golf on a college football Saturday?
Alma mater playing in primetime, so decided to get a round in at noon. Staff friendly, as always. Paired up with Mick, and had an above average round (89), even though quite a few greens were on life support. Par 3s very challenging. Pace of play was great. I enjoy Pinetuck, and will be back soon.
Not worth the time
First time at Pinetuck...and last. The place is a complete disgrace. Not maintained at all, meaning clubhouse, range, and especially the course were in extremely rough shape. No hole markings, no guidance as to where next hole would be (only sign we saw was at one point telling us left for hole 11, right for hole 14), cart path was a joke (combination of gravel, mud, rural route, and off-road). Carts were atrocious - zero tread on tires, completely misaligned front axle, and parking brake did not work. Relative to course itself - was a glorified cow pasture and the greens were severely weather damages with brown patch and bare areas over a large part of each green.
Quite a shame as the course sits in a beautiful part of Rock Hill, SC - God's country. With the right leadership, course guidance, and financing Pinetuck could become a hidden gem. But in no way is it one now.
It's par for the course
The greens were very soft which helped for approach shots. Most of greens were a good size. The tee boxes needed to be cut and sometimes the fairways and rough were cut the same height. The course is very forgiving which helps on arrant shots.
waste of money
For paying average price for a sunday round, this was below average. Cash only at the clubhouse, so you'll have to use an ATM and pay a fee... which in 2019 is inexcusable in my opinion. I had to ask for ice for the beer as the staff running the clubhouse was cold and un-hospitable. Clearly only caters to the local crowd of the area. Carts weren't clean and had to clean our own cart prior to our round.
Course was un-kept and i lost balls in the fairway. Seems very run down.
Your basically paying for the old staff members retirement by playing here. Pay an extra $5 and have a much better experience anywhere else.
You can play better for the same price or close to it
One look when you pull up says it all. Driving rage looks like an overgrown filed. Which it is. I know its not a nice course and I got a deal on GolfNow to play it and I still wouldn't pay that price again. If they charged you $10-$15 to play this course it would be worth it but that is it. Clubhouse is a joke, fairways are so grown up that your ball stops as soon as it hits them. I don't even know when they cut the course last time. The greens are junk. There are a few that are ok but most are in bad shape. They have to place the hole where there is some good grass on the greens to avoid the huge bare spots on most greens. Golf carts are trash. You are lucky if you make it back with one. This place has gone so far down hill the past few years. It was never a nice course but it used to be kept up better than this to make it worth playing. Not anymore.
SO MUCH POTENTIAL
WOW, I wish I had money fo a golf course, this course jags soooo much potential. I hadn’t played here in about a year but it hasn’t changed he’s much( it was better this time) I would start with the ran down clubhouse only because that’s what you pull up to and it could set the tone for your potential round, They also need to invest in some hole signs and yardage markers. No holes had markers??Most of the fairways, tee boxes and greens were in good if not great shape. A few needed attention but for the money and the challenge this course is well worth it. Don’t let the clubhouse scare you off. I will play here again and I will recommend but with stipulations
Pinetuck Golf
The amenities are in disgusting condition. Bathrooms dirty with trash on the floor. Club house appearance was terrible. Clubhouse area is all overgrown with weeds and shrubs. Back steps to clubhouse railing not attached to wall. Course conditions were ill-kept. Cart paths had overgrown trees. Course was terribly manicured. We will never be back. Price was reasonable but almost too high for the course conditions.
NO GROUNDSKEEPER WORKERS
Good green conditions are the best attribute of this course. Little or no care is given to rough or sand traps. We picked a time and day that was too hot to enjoy golf.
Not What You Expect
I'll Give This Rating in sections:
Amenities: The Pro Club is not much of one but there is an employee to take your money and get you a cart to start playing. The Carts themselves leave much to be desired, the steering was stiff with little turning ability and my cart's parking brake didn't work but the courses paths were flat enough where I didn't necessarily have to use it although annoying throughout the round.
Course: The course is not in as bad a shape as the reviews will have you believe. I steered clear of this course for a long time because of them and took a chance on a $12 round. The fairways aren't immaculate but good enough to find good grass no matter where you land. The rough isn't all that definable either but you can tell the fairway is more manicured if not by much. The majority of the greens definitely had dead patches but the hole placements were separate from the bad areas of the greens. Being on bent grass the greens rolled true and had slope to them, something hard to find on a cheaper course.
Layout: The layout was good but very straight, most of the round you can see other golfers and it definitely slows the pace down a little. The back nine is actually challenging though, featuring three of the four water hazard holes on the course. Keep in mind this is a community course so houses are on sides of the holes so if you are a novice golfer be wary of mishits into yards and/or houses.
Overall: I understand the bad reviews, but this course isn't going for that type of experience and what it does, it does well. The Value is there and that's possibly because of the bad reviews but this course is not bad by any means. If you want to get out and hone your game, this is definitely a course you can get it done on. I'll be back.
