About
Editor's Note: Course closed for business in 01/2020.
This course, designed by Jeff Brauer and opened in 1991, offers one of the more enjoyable experiences for the average golfer. The par 72 layout is only 6,500 yards and is void of trees, making it more of a links-style course. Mounding is prominent around the multi-tiered greens, making it difficult for ups and downs after approach miscues.
Two holes stand out, both on the back nine. The par 5 No. 12 is reachable in two at only 488 yards, but water guards the landing area off the tee and the green has three levels. No. 17 is a fun par 3 playing 195 yards over a lake.
Remember that the trick to Bluebonnet is the greens. Pay attention to the pin placements and try to find the right level of the green.
Getting there : From I-290 going west get off at the Decker Ln. exit, and drive about 1.5 miles to the course.

Excellent course for the price.
Course was in great condition. Greens were in great condition. Pace of play was good.
Really fun course
I was traveling for work and found this for a late afternoon deal. It was a great deal for the money. The course was in pretty good shape, greens rolled great. The tee boxes could use a little work, but not unplayable. It was a lot of fun and I would definitely go back. It was really windy and that added to the difficulty, but it was a fun layout.
nice spring day on the course
The course was in good shape due to the spring rains we received this year! Made a 4 hour round on a Saturday.
you get what you pay for
Not an especially nice course but it's fine for a $30 public course. Bad: An abundance of rude, amateur golfers, not enough signs for directions and holes, and lost a half dozen balls in the thick brush/rough. Good: Interesting variety of holes (17 is great!) and cheap price. It wouldn't be my first choice to visit again but it'll do in a pinch.
Very surprised, in a good way
After playing this course, I could describe this course with one word: fun. I know that may sound elementary, but I am not sure when I have had such an enjoyable outing, not only due to the company I keep, but the unique and playable course. Nice doglegs, beautiful and true greens, tremendous drainage after earlier storms, and plush fairways.
great day of golf
It was my 1st time at this course and I loved it. Nice and open and if u miss a fairway u r more than able to find ur ball. Played 18 in 3 1/2 hrs. Great for the $$.
Fantastic green complexes
I've played this course several times over the years, and I found it to be even better than I had remembered when I played this week. The greens were fantastic, and the staff treated us as if they actually were appreciative that we choose to play Bluebonnet Hill. Had a great time (beer was cheap); will definitely be back.
This wasn't what I thought
On the Golfnow website it didn't say that the course had been aerified. So I was a little upset about the situation. An in the pro shop it post that they postponed on doing it. Thanks but not playing there again.
How can you ruin golf? By playing this course
The only good things about the course were the greens and tee boxes. The fairways and rough are horrible. Nearly everything was hard as a rock and dry or it was muddy with standing water. There were not any good fairways. Also, they clearly overbook their course. It took four hours to finish a round when I was in a group of two. We had eight people waiting at a ted box for those in front of us more than once. I doubt I would play here even if it was free.
Great price and nice layout.
It was tough to rank this course after playing the TPC Oaks course in San Antonio a week ago. Not to mention that yall had about 3 inches of rain Friday and Saturday. I would definitely play Bluebonnet Hill again. Prices are great and I could tell that the course would be great to play when it wasn't so wet and muddy. I really liked hole 17. I will be back!
Great greens
The greens were awesome. They were green and consistently fast. It was cold and windy, but had a great time. Can't wait to get back out there again!
Greens in good shape
Although I played the course in 30-35mph winds, I found it to be quite playable. The greens for this time of year were very good. It's a little shorter but challenging from the tips.
Bluebonnet is ready for Spring Play!
Got a 7:44 tee time on GolfNow for great price for our group. The staff was very nice & allowed us to slide into another time slot as 2 of our group were coming in from out of town to join us & running late.
The fairways were hard (normal in winter) but the greens were in fantastic shape and rolled fast & true--the best in the Austin area for all public courses. BH has cleared out a lot of the rough so if you miss a fairway, you can find your ball and salvage the hole. Wide fairways & few trees gives everyone a chance to reach greens in regulation. There are several par 4's that are easy to reach but if the wind is against you on some holes (par 5's and #17-par 3 across water), you have your work cut out. Pace of play was excellent-- finished in less than 4 hours. I highly recommend BH to any level of golfer to enjoy a nice course & avoid the slow play elsewhere.
Cant Beat it
If you wanna get away and play some golf with some buddies this is a great place to play
Little rough on the tee boxes
I've played here several times. I enjoy the course and the staffs willingness to help. In fact I played here today and last week too.
As we are coming out of the cold season, I know they are working on the course. Yet on both of my recent visits, I noticed they have moved many of the tee boxes to really uneven parts of ground. I didn't count, but I would guess half of the holes I had to tee off with the ball above or below my feet.
I hope as the weather warms, they pay special attention to getting all of the tee areas level.
Catch it now
I used to play often at Bluebonnet and this is about as good as I have seen the greens. Overall the course was in good shape, but they still need actual sand in some of the bunkers and they will always have trouble achieving plush fairways with the soil they have and the fact that they are on top of a rock hill. Can't beat the value for the money.
Bluebonnet
Always enjoy playing this course. Good value. Good location.
really good course for low score
I like this course
whenever I can come to play with low cost without pressure. and also green condition wes really good when I played recently. people is nice and gentle.
very crowded, good greens, average experience
I was pleasantly surprised to see some green color on the greens over at Bluebonnet. Positives: Greens, good layout (not too hard but some visually interesting holes)and cheap beers for sale (round actually included a free draft beer for all of us). Negatives: Place was overbooked. Showed up 20 minutes early and was called over the speaker to the 1st tee and there were 3 groups (6 carts) waiting for us to tee off. Not a fan of the gallery on the first tee. That being said pace of play was slow and the staff (specifically the pro) were a little unfriendly. But, the greens look like they had at least been cared for, they were green and responsive which is definitely a plus. Worth a shot if you are looking for something new with green greens, will I be back? No.
