About
Editor's Note: Course closed for business in 01/2020.
This course, designed by Jeff Brauer and opened in 1991, offers one of the more enjoyable experiences for the average golfer. The par 72 layout is only 6,500 yards and is void of trees, making it more of a links-style course. Mounding is prominent around the multi-tiered greens, making it difficult for ups and downs after approach miscues.
Two holes stand out, both on the back nine. The par 5 No. 12 is reachable in two at only 488 yards, but water guards the landing area off the tee and the green has three levels. No. 17 is a fun par 3 playing 195 yards over a lake.
Remember that the trick to Bluebonnet is the greens. Pay attention to the pin placements and try to find the right level of the green.
Getting there : From I-290 going west get off at the Decker Ln. exit, and drive about 1.5 miles to the course.

awesome course
First time using golfnow to reserve a tee time, and it was a breeze, Chris was eager to help us out and had us in our cart ready to play in no time.
Green pasture
excellent fairways and fast greens could be more challenging the sand traps could be better but that is for most courses in central texas
Great value.
Nice course layout, good course conditions, friendly staff and reasonable price make Bluebonnet Hill a great value.
Bluebonnet Hill Review
The greens and fairways were in good conditions. The best I've seen at this course in some time.
Back to Bluebonnet
Its been some time since we played Bluebonnet. Bluebonnet number 12 short par 5 still killed me. Will be back to conquer that hole.
Fun little course
Bluebonnet is a fun course at a reasonable price. It's usually in good shape and it has a couple of challenging holes. I would recommend checking it out.
Rolling Greens
The course is in great condition considering the lack of rain this summer. The ball rolls a texas mile in the fairways off the tee boxes. You do have a couple of holes that you have to lay up to take some of the hazards out of play, but that is course management at its best. The greens were rolling a 9 or 10 on the stimp I would say. the greens were pretty receptive of the golf ball too, I had to repair a lot of ball marks left by others that hit on before me and my party.
Overall this is a great course to play in austin, tx.
good value
Course was in pretty good shape for mid August. Nothing super special about this course, but many of the fairways are forgiving and great value (about $30) for us beginners.
Relaxing, Easy Round
Good course to get your game in shape. Wide open fairways probably play more difficult when the wind is blowing. Almost no trouble with few sand traps. Some holes have thick scruffy brush and trees near the tee boxes, but you have to make an effort to get the ball in it. Not to say you can't lose a ball here or there. From the back tees there are a couple of long holes and there is a 185 yard par 3 which is entirely a carry over water. The course is in the hills so there are a few interesting elevation changes and nice vistas. The greens were in excellent shape, and for the most part, so was the sand and the fairways. It's no frills, so not a beautiful course, but very playable. Good value, fun round.
Great course
My first time playing here and had a good time. At the 10th people started jumping in and for a Friday there were a lot of beginners, which slowed us down the rest of the way. But good course!
Pleasantly surprised.
I have only played Bluebonnet one other time years ago so i was not sure what to expect for a low priced course.
I was very pleasantly surprised by the condition of the course. It's in quite good shape and was fun to play.
Great value, great course conditions
Just make the drive out down 290 and you wont regret it.
Not in line with other reviews!!
After reading several reviews I thought this would be a nice course. Nope! But maybe I'm use to playing better courses. The tees were okay but the fairways and greens were in horrible shape.
For the money, would never play here again.
First Time
Yesterday was my first experience at BBGC and I have to say I'm quite impressed. Wanted to play a round by myself to get some much needed practice in. When I arrived they had me paired with 3 other gentleman and I asked if I could go solo. They instantly obliged and couldn't have been nicer. Course is a bit rough in some spots, but overall an absolute steal for the price. Holes are quite varied and offer some challenge, but overall very entertaining. I'll definitely be back!

Competent, courteous, friendly staff. Enjoy playing the course
A course that really cares
I recently played Bluebonnet Hill again upon my return to Austin for a business trip. The golf course is in excellent condition for the middle of July. Yes the weather was warm but the fairways are fantastic. Best I have ever seen them. The greens are always good, the best you will find for the money. I got paired up with a gentleman that I got paired up with last time. He made the round completely miserable for me. This time was different. I had a great time. I asked the pro if he said something to this other gentleman. He told me he remember my issue from the last time I was in town and that he had a talk with this particular gentleman. I appreciate his memory and his attention to my concerns. I will definitely return!
Presently surprising
I have not played this course since last year,, reluctant to go back. Good thing I gave them another go. Greens are coming around but still rolled true. Fairways we great. Course is overall in good condition. I'm even thinking of going again today to play.
Great course, well maintained
This is a beautiful course, very well maintained. The greens roll fast and smooth. Layout is moderate, with some tough holes and some easier holes. For the money, even regular green fees, this is well worth the trip out to Decker Lake.
good time at Bluebonnet Hill. I'd go back
had a good time. its not one the courses you have to go to when in Austin but it is a good time if you want to get a good fun, quick round in. the finishing holes are the best. 16-18
Hidden Jewel
I have noticed this course on my GPS screen every since the tollway opened (130) but had never checked it out. What a pleasant surprise! There is lots of grass on the fairways and the greens roll very true. Several elevations changes (after all, it is on a hill) make it very interesting and offer some nice scenery. I'll definitely be back.
