About
Editor's Note: Course closed for business in 01/2020.
This course, designed by Jeff Brauer and opened in 1991, offers one of the more enjoyable experiences for the average golfer. The par 72 layout is only 6,500 yards and is void of trees, making it more of a links-style course. Mounding is prominent around the multi-tiered greens, making it difficult for ups and downs after approach miscues.
Two holes stand out, both on the back nine. The par 5 No. 12 is reachable in two at only 488 yards, but water guards the landing area off the tee and the green has three levels. No. 17 is a fun par 3 playing 195 yards over a lake.
Remember that the trick to Bluebonnet is the greens. Pay attention to the pin placements and try to find the right level of the green.
Getting there : From I-290 going west get off at the Decker Ln. exit, and drive about 1.5 miles to the course.

Pretty nice for a municipal course
Great course to play on. Good elevation changes, decent amount of hazards (water and sand), decent length and the greens were pretty pristine. The fairways are a little hard, which makes for great rolls and added distance to your drives, so can't complain about that. The grass was a little dead, but that's expected around winter time. I'm sure this course must look at its best during Spring time. Best of all, the pace of play, the marshal made sure that our group was keeping a good pace, and I appreciate that. For a foursome, made up of beginner and intermediate level players, to have finished 18 in 4 hours, it's a pretty good pace. I'll definitely return to this course.
Nice course in great shape
Got a great deal and played as a single. Was put into a foursome which was fine. The course is in really great shape. Nice fairways and excellent greens. It's not a particularly challenging course with little trees or hazards. But for those of us happy when we can break 100 I was really happy with the course. Some fun holes that can help your confidence. Pace of play was excellent. Was finished with 18 in about 3.5hrs.
Great golf, friendly staff not rush rush rush
One of the things that I dislike today is how golf courses stack up players to maximize profits versus allowing for a nice relaxing round of golf. Bluebonnet golf course achieves giving you the opportunity to play a relaxed round versus cramming so many folks on the course that you constantly feel rushed. Other muni courses kill the vibe by doing this, Jimmy Clay and Kiser for example.
Relax play golf and have fun! That's what bluebonnet is all about!
The greens
The condition of the greens goes from a low of "better than most" to a high of "good as any course anywhere".
The pace of play is very consistent at 4 hours for 18 holes.
The fairways have been average but they are showing signs of getting better for a complete pkg that rivals an country club.
Outstanding staff.
Fun Little Course
It was raining off and on, and being east of I35, it wasn't absorbing into the clay well, so it was WET. That said, the greens stayed consistent and relatively fast and smooth. There are a couple of eagle opportunities, even for shorter hitters. Overall, a very fun little course to play!
Beautifully, scenic golf course in great shape
Wonderful course, condition and speed of play. The staff was very friendly and helpful. Had a great day with a wonderful fall weather between days of fronts with rain for this area of Texas
Friendly course
Staff was very good, nice driving range, course is in very good shape and pace of play very good
Great course conditions
This course has great conditions and for a great value.
Nice course in the past
Very very slow maybe in a month the course will be in better shape
Ahhh, Bluebonnet
I've played this course over the years since they've opened and I always come away thinking the same thing, it's a cow pasture. It was built on a tight budget, the fairways were leveled by a mule pulling a railroad tie, and the cart path concrete was poured and leveled by the lowest bidder, probably the owner's uncle. But still it is a good value for the money. Play it and see what you think..
great greens
The course is in good shape and the greens roll very nice.
Bluebonnet golf course
The greens are starting to fill in nicely after being aerated. There is still some bumpiness on the putts but it's fairly minimal. The fairways and greens both are green and lush. I was able to take nice divots from the fairways which was nice. The rough around the greens is also nice and full. Some of the tee boxes seem a bit wornout in comparison to the rest of the course.
Good for the price
Monday, dont expect a TCP though. It is good enough to go and play 18, will forgive some bad shots, however it will cost you in the long run.
My default course in Austin
Bluebonnet is in its best condition ever. Best value in the area in my opinion. Greens are always firm and fast. Fairways are now lush.
Good links style course
Good layout. Greens are always in good shape. Pace of play is maintained.
Good golf course. Good pace of play.
I played with my son for the first time here in years. He said the course is good. He liked the greens and fairways. The layout is entertaining. The fairways are hard and run firm. The greens are smooth and very easy to read. He likes the par fours that are risk reward. 17 is a challenging part three across water. The wind seems to come into play on every hole. If you have not played here now is a good time.
Great course
This course it greatly taken care of. Very fun to play and greens hold true. They pride themselves in the pace of play so you never have to wait long if it is busy. I have always finished up within 4 hours and I have played there when it was absolutely packed. I recommend that you check it out it is worth the price.
Fairly pretty course
Nice course, but nothing so special to warrant a "private" club. The fairways were nice, but the greens simply did not accept a ball on the approach shot. I was able to come in with a wedge on most of my 2nd shots, but the ball would hit, and then roll off the back - pretty tough to make par, or birdie for that matter. I' would play here again, but not really plan on keeping a score for my handicap.
The course is great
love playing this course, I'll go back as often as I can. I have no problem telling my friends about the course
Great Course, Play It!
I am in Austin visiting family and had the chance to play Bluebonnet Hill at twilight rate, which was an awesome price for this course. The course is a great layout and is fun to play with someneeded shot placement. Matthew was working check-in and was great and got me right out. I will definitely go back any time I am in town.
