About
Editor's Note: Course closed for business in 01/2020.
This course, designed by Jeff Brauer and opened in 1991, offers one of the more enjoyable experiences for the average golfer. The par 72 layout is only 6,500 yards and is void of trees, making it more of a links-style course. Mounding is prominent around the multi-tiered greens, making it difficult for ups and downs after approach miscues.
Two holes stand out, both on the back nine. The par 5 No. 12 is reachable in two at only 488 yards, but water guards the landing area off the tee and the green has three levels. No. 17 is a fun par 3 playing 195 yards over a lake.
Remember that the trick to Bluebonnet is the greens. Pay attention to the pin placements and try to find the right level of the green.
Getting there : From I-290 going west get off at the Decker Ln. exit, and drive about 1.5 miles to the course.

Good confidence building course
This course is great to build your confidence and work on short iron play. If you drive the ball well, you should have nothing but wedges into these holes. Fairways are hard and fast and need work, but the greens are great
It has seen better days.
The staff at bluebonnet were friendly, not overly, but friendly none the less. Played no1 and thought the course was in fair shape, however as we proceeded through it became progressively worse. There were several areas on the fairway with no grass and exposed dirt. The greens were fuzzy and very slow. Several areas had unrepaired pitch marks. There were some holes that were in very good shape, but they were few and far between. No rough to speak of, only native grasses and tall weeds. The carts do not have windshields and when the winds was blowing, it would be just like walking. Our cart was dying for the last five holes. We thought we were going to be walking in. Overall not worth the money. I would play other courses for less money and in better shape.
Good course at a great price!
I have played Bluebonnet a few times over the years. This Nov 2012 had the best conditions I've ever seen. While not "resort" level in condition or scenery, very impressive for a public course with plenty of challenge.
Not too shabby
This course is nothing special, but you can have a fun Saturday here. The staff is really friendly and the fairways and greens are maintained fairly well, but I recommend you bring your own cooler since you have to purchase a six pack at the club house in order to borrrow one of their coolers. As long as you stay under $30 this course is well worth it, but I wouldn't recommend spending more then that. This is also a good beginner course since it's not too challenging.
A bit windy, great company, okay golf
Very dry, like everywhere WE NEED RAIN! Greens in very good condition considering lack of adequate water, firm & fast. Keep your ball in the short stuff - rough is tough
Played fast, nice greens, poor fairways. Need more help at snack bar.
We played in 4 hours. Greens were in great shape. Fairways need water, many bare, hard lies. Sand traps were wet. Long wait at snackbar/kitchen in clubhouse. Great value!!
Nice Course for Relaxing Round
Course was in good shape overall. The greens rolled somewhat slower than preferred, but they were fair. Putts wouldn't get away even when downhill. It was a windy day (15-20 mph), which magnifies the need for accurate drives. The one thing about this course is that you really can't spray the ball because of the deep rough/waste areas. However, there are areas to miss the fairways in the landing areas so I would recommend playing the tee boxes suited to your distance capability. I played the tips, and had I played the whites then some wayward drives surely would've been unplayable because the open areas seem suited for typical landing areas of the average drive. The course isn't overly difficult, but it isn't a walk in the park either. All in all, it is a relaxing round because this course isn't over-booked.
Awesome Staff and Great Greens!
I travel a lot with my job to Austin and never had the chance to play Bluebonnet. I played the course a few days ago and I was very impressed. I don't get to travel with my clubs so I needed to rent some. The Head Pro first let me demo a set on the driving range and I told him they werent for me, he then let me use his clubs on the course! Not too many courses I have been to where the Head Pro lets you take his equipment out. The golf course is in excellent condition. The greens are in impeccable shape rolling fairly quick but very true. I will definitely return
Great service, friendly, professional all the staff seemed to really love their jobs servicing the golfing customers.
I would give Bluebonnet 4 1/2 out of 5. The course was in great shape, the greens ran true, bunkers raked, everything about the course and shop was first rate.
Beautiful rolling hills, that will challenge anyone.
I've enjoyed Bluebonnett Hiil for years and have hosted many friends and family members over the years. The course is in the best condition I've seen in a long time.
Bluebonnet is just a fun golf course.
I always enjoy playing Bluebonnet, but only get to the course once or twice a year.
Great value for the money, a very fun course.
The course is well maintained and has a nice layout. Very fun! Finally a course that is challenging, but not to difficult, and has a lot of character. Lots of deer and we even saw a young bobcat that came across the fairway close enough for pics. Great day of golf!
Fun challenging course
This was the first time I played this course. It was a fun course, and I was pleasantly surprised with the fairways and layout of the course, better than I expected. I will definitely be playing this course again, and the rate was good.
A course you can score on with nice greens.
Good fairways and nice greens that are fairly quick but roll true. The winds can really blow on this course which make holes into it two clubs longer. Don't expect to take a divit, ground is hard under turf but playable. If you drive well you can score. If you don't the deep rough is unplayable. Interesting holes with some diversity. Good value and they will place a single with other groups which is nice. Always accessable.
This course is well designed.
I enjoy playing Bluebonnet. It is well designed course that is fun to play. The fairways and the greens have been in pristine condition the three times I have played the course. The staff is friendly and helpful.
Home of the 4 hour round!
A fun and not-too-challenging course with rolling hills and affordable prices. The course is well kept and staff are very friendly. They focus on ensuring that every group finishes in 4 hours and usually do a good job. One of the best values for golf in the Austin-area, though a bit of a drive (15-20 minutes) from central Austin.
Fun Course!
Great for new or moderate golfers! Have played several times in the past few weeks and I thoroughly enjoy every time.
Old rolling goat pasture.
When I worked nearby, this was a quick go-to place at the end of the day when you really wanted to get in a round. Today, I'd have second thoughts about playing there even if someone else was paying. There are too many courses with far better conditions available. This course was built on what I believe was an old goat pasture -- at least that's what we always called it. The fairways are typically very hard and can often burn up in the summer months. The greens have varied from time to time, but I mostly remember them always being on the sandy side. The layout's not the worst as they mix it up a little. It's just not a place I think "yeah, I want to go play there again."
