About
Editor's Note: Course closed for business in 01/2020.
This course, designed by Jeff Brauer and opened in 1991, offers one of the more enjoyable experiences for the average golfer. The par 72 layout is only 6,500 yards and is void of trees, making it more of a links-style course. Mounding is prominent around the multi-tiered greens, making it difficult for ups and downs after approach miscues.
Two holes stand out, both on the back nine. The par 5 No. 12 is reachable in two at only 488 yards, but water guards the landing area off the tee and the green has three levels. No. 17 is a fun par 3 playing 195 yards over a lake.
Remember that the trick to Bluebonnet is the greens. Pay attention to the pin placements and try to find the right level of the green.
Getting there : From I-290 going west get off at the Decker Ln. exit, and drive about 1.5 miles to the course.

Bluebonnet
The course was in excellent condition for the price. The staff was very friendly.
Played on A Monday afternoon as a twosome. Pro Shop told us to tee off whenever we were ready as there were practically no other tee times that afternoon. Course was in very good shape. The greens were a bit fast for my liking but overall in pretty decent shape. The layout is kind of confusing because you will be driving away from a green and there will be two or three tee boxes relatively close by with no signs pointing to which is which. Not a huge ding on my rating but just an observation. Very much so enjoyed the course and will coming back soon.
Best course for $
You can often find a round for under $20 on golf now. The course is shorter, and not overly challenging, but the greens roll well and the pace of play was excellent. I have played a round there by myself in 2 1/2 hrs. Great course for the money.
Short easy hacker course
Overall layout is extremely short. I kept hearing and reading online how this course plays in under 4 hours all day everyday when we got on first tee we were behind 2 4 somes and thought there goes the 4 hour round but soon found out the course is so short it doesn't matter. Pace of play was excellent. Fun little course for it's money but nothing special. Reminded me of a small town west Texas course I play when I go visit my family. Fun, short layout and maintenance is trying
Bluebonnet Hills
Took a friend of mine. It was his first time at this course. Greens are in great shape. We both enjoyed ourselves.
Great Day of Golf
Bluebonnet is a great course. The layout is fun and the conditions are great. Shot my best round of the year there of 75.
Good shape right now!
Its been a good golf season this year since most of the public courses have been in better shape due to the amount of rainfall!
The course looked much greener this time around when I played it!
I will keep this course in mind when I am looking to book close to home.
Good memories
Have not played at Bluebonnet since circa 2000, maybe longer. Was working in the area and decided to "GolfNow" and found this to be close by. So decided to mosey over and play a quick round before heading home. Many good memories of playing here a long time ago with friends who are no longer with us today. Some holes came back to me. The 7th because I made my first eagle from 165 (2nd shot) and I still have the case with the ball inside it. It was a Friday and the course was packed. However it is the type of course that draw in a lot of duffers. The groups in front of me sprayed all over the place and one was playing barefoot. (I don't mind that because I was one before, but they could have played ready golf) The front 9 took me 3 hours and I informed the pro shop at the turn that I needed to walk away. He was gracious and gave me a raincheck for the remaining 9. I appreciated his gesture very much and I will be back during a quiet week day someday soon! Thanks again for everything. Paul
Great as usual
Blue was in great condition. Usually, the fairways are heard, but the rain has helped give them some lushness. Blue is known for the greens, which at times were great, but some holes had some dry spots and bumps. My ball would tend to bounce more often than not.
greens & cart path
greens need a lot of work. bumpy with very little grass. splotchy. cart path eats more tires than the cost of more concrete. very very narrow and broken-up. needs lots of work. I do like the course, challenging but fun to play. I will go again.
Perfect putting greens
I play this course often, but today the greens are rolling like in the PGA. Course is in very good shape and always trying to improve overall.
Great Value
Tough to find a better deal in the area as I am always able to find very affordable tee times online. Good variety of holes, testing all areas of your game. The course is still coming into shape but was in good condition given the time of year. The greens were in great shape and rolled very true. I'll be back
Good deal
Fairways and greens were very hard and rolled the ball an extra 30-50+ yards which was favorable/unforgiving depending on the hole. Greens were very fast, challenging the player which was nice, but very frustrating at times.
Consistent
It has been a couple years since I last played here and it hasn't changed. Practice area and nice and spacious. Overall the course was just what I thought it would be. It plays like a links course with hard fairways. You can score out here. The bunkers are maintained as well. Blue is known for the best muni greens in Austin. They are smooth and true. I would say they were a bit on the hard side but it is winter. If you have not experienced Blue I would recommend it. We paid $38 for a hot now, which was a bit high, but it's tough to find anywhere cheap these days.
Nice Course
Great course. Greens were in excellent conditions and have some degree of difficulty. The fairway was dry but it is winter in Texas. I can wait when the fairway are in great condition.
Average public course
Greens great shape. Only other area overseeded was the driving range. Fairways brown and hard as concrete. The price on Golf Now would get be back.
Foggy start but enjoyable day
I met my Dad yesterday morning for an early round. Can't fault the course for the foggy morning but we still managed to finish almost at four hours and fifteen minutes. We were lucky enough to play with two other players who were very nice and we were never pushed and were able keep a nice pace. The staff was very nice and we'll be back out to play again soon. Maybe next week !
great day, great value
I brought my dad in from FL and we played here at 8am and finished in less than 3.5 hours. I've always had quick rounds here. The greens were in immaculate shape, fast and true, in December. The course is sprinkled with easy holes and a few that are challenging in layout and shot making, and length. Will be back soon.
