Morongo Golf Club at Tukwet Canyon - Legends Course
About
Morongo Golf Club at Tukwet Canyon offers two 18-hole championship courses, the Legends and the Champions. Nestled in the foothills of the San Gorgoncio and San Jacinto Mountains, both courses have a scenic landscape that offers stunning views. The Legends Course is the newer of the two but it provides just as challenging a game as the Champions, which is a PGA Tour favorite. The Legends twists and turns through the winding elevations, demanding accuracy throughout. Like its sister golf course, there are numerous steep-lipped bunkers treacherously placed along the greensides. The rough is also tall, thick, and unforgiving. The tricky par-3 fourth hole is played from the highest point on the property. From the tee, the canyon seems more intimidating but the wildly sloped green is where the challenge begins.

What happened? Far inferior to the past
I have played the Morongo courses many times over the past dozen years, but this is the first time I've played it since the beginning of Covid 4/5 years?). The pro Shop, cart and starter staff were excellent, but other than that, very disappointing. The course conditioning was far poorer than when I played in the past and the encroaching housing changed the ambience of the course a great deal. We teed off the 5th tee an hour and fifteen minutes after we teed off the first - a pace for a 5:35 round. The two groups in front of us (maybe others too) quit so the round got faster after 8 or 9 holes but was still slow.
All in all a disappointment returning there after several years. As I play there while staying in Palm Springs and the time to drive, I won't go back.
A Course with Potential
My wife and I are staying in Palm Desert and we were looking for courses that may be a little lighter on the wallet and so we found Morongo. We thought it would be associated with the Casino, but it actually owned by the Morongo tribe.
The course has a great layout, and could be a really nice course if they can get the front nine fairways in shape. the front nine is in poor shape, and we were debating if we wanted to continue with the back, but the back nine, is actually in pretty good shape.
The layout of the course could be great once the fairways are good, and the water hazards fixed up, and I would look forward to playing again when/if they ever get there. It looks as if they are working on some infrastructure, and some housing, and the carts are new, so we are hoping that the fairways are next.
If the course gets it all together, I would rate this as a diamond in the rough, right now, it's just kinda rough.
Fun Day With Old Friends
It's a great course. Our only disappointment was they called us in at 4:30 after finished 15 holes. We had another hour of sunlight and could easily have finished.
We paid the twilight rate.
It would have been nice to know this ahead of time. Maybe it was on the sight; however, we have played there in the past and this was the first time it happened.
People were great, course was not
Morongo Legends was not a good experience. When we arrived and went into the Pro Shop we were treated very well with a super-helpful guy in the shop and another in the cart barn. The starter too was very friendly. Then the nightmare started....
Conditioning was sub-standard, far worse than when I played here several years ago. It took us an hour and a quarter to play the first 4 holes (but we did get to chat with the group in front and the group behind as we waited on the tees). The two groups in front of us both quit after 9 holes which did help us finish at a faster pace.
Would I return? No. Which is a shame as it was a beautiful day and the course is interesting and has a wonderful layout.
great course
great course for the money..
slow pace though.. no Marshall to speed up the pace. overall 👍🏼
Poor
Pace to slow nobody checking out players time per hole
Great for the money
Dead of winter, can't expect much better. The two tracks are distinctly different. Both fun to play. Could use a bit more upkeep but I can't complain with the $40 twilight rate.
Course is currently being recovered from storm damage, but it is still a challenge and a great afternoon.
Poor condition!! Poor service!!
It took 5 1/2 hours to play and the course condition was really bad. The fairway had no grass and all of the bunkers were filled with water. Also, I booked a reservation for my group two weeks ago at 10:30 am but when I got there I was told that they couldn't find our reservation and then they changed our reservation to 10:47 am. But, we couldn't start at 10:47 am. We had to wait an additional 1 hour to tee off because 7 other tournament groups made a reservation after I did two weeks ago and we got pushed out of our tee off time. The club never informed me about the tournament and just told our group when we got there that our schedule was delayed. I realized that there was a tournament when I walked out to the 1st tee and that is why we got pushed out of our tee off time. This golf course has very bad conditions and not very good service. I don't recommend this course if you want to enjoy your game
I don't recommend this poor golf course
We took 5hours 30min to play and the course condition was really bad. Fairway has no grass and all of bunker were filled by water. Also I had to wait additional 1 hour to start game because they inserted 7 teams of other tournament groups at my tee time even I booked my schedule two weeks ago. The club has never informed it to me and just told my schedule was delayed but I realized when a lot of group people started at 1st hole. This golf course has terrible condition and service mind. I don't recommend this course if you want to enjoy golf.
Too many people
Took 6hrs to get in 16 holes. Tee times every 6 min.
Four different groups behind me went home. I was not warned either. There wasn't a Marshall.
Stay away!!!
Course is in terrible conditions. Tee boxes very uneven, fairway are brown and not as green, bunkers are full of water. Green were soft and played well. No Marshall to move along slower groups. We waited on 17 out of 18 holes. No cash accepted. I wouldn’t waste my money here. Drive the extra 20/30 miles and play in Palm Springs.
