Morongo Golf Club at Tukwet Canyon - Legends Course
About
Morongo Golf Club at Tukwet Canyon offers two 18-hole championship courses, the Legends and the Champions. Nestled in the foothills of the San Gorgoncio and San Jacinto Mountains, both courses have a scenic landscape that offers stunning views. The Legends Course is the newer of the two but it provides just as challenging a game as the Champions, which is a PGA Tour favorite. The Legends twists and turns through the winding elevations, demanding accuracy throughout. Like its sister golf course, there are numerous steep-lipped bunkers treacherously placed along the greensides. The rough is also tall, thick, and unforgiving. The tricky par-3 fourth hole is played from the highest point on the property. From the tee, the canyon seems more intimidating but the wildly sloped green is where the challenge begins.

Perfect Conditions! Weather and course!
Perfect day, pretty cold in the morning but turned out real nice..Both courses are in perfect condition after all the rain. There were some new “water hazards” but in another week they’ll be gone. That was only bad part, but you have to expect that after all that weather…Range was closed except for the participants of Epson ladies amateur qualifier. We drive in from 57&210 fwy areas to play out here because its such a great deal for a great golf course(s) Theres not a better coiurse in better condition around this entire region, with the exception of Goose Creek. They do still adhere to some strict covid policies, Im kinda over that stuff, but whatever, Ill keep coming back.
Water Logged Course
The club house staff was wonderful. There was a golf tournament at the course so we had to wait 30 minutes for a golf cart for our foursome.
There were multiple holes were the fairway was underwater in some locations this made it difficult while keeping our balls in the fairway not to lose balls. Greens needs some work on the Champions course, a bit disappointing after playing Goose Creek the week prior.
We will return to play the Legends course hopefully the conditions will be better!
Fair experience
They should spread out their tee times a little bit more to create a better pace of play. They don't have any marshals to advise the slow groups to speed up their slow play. The tee boxes are in very poor condition and the greens are full of unrepaired ball marks. The green keeper puts the pins in some really stupid places. Sorry to be so negative but this course needs to get control of their management policies and start doing a better job for their patrons.
An ok Monday
As always the course and staff was fine. It would be nice to have a marshal though. Too many slow golfers yesterday. Over 5 hrs to play on a Monday is ridicules. My group of 3 all shot low to mid 80's. People in front were never ready to hit their balls. Wasted so much time between shots and 15-20 minutes to put. Horrible. This crap happens without a marshal.
Do not play here
From awful course conditions (boxes, fairways and greens all suck) to the INEPT starters who offload Champion course golfers to Legends and screwing people over,…this place is trash.
UnderPar or not….it’s not even worth $20.
Poor staff
Poor course management on how many people they let out at one time no starter 10-15 people waiting on a tee box. Staff was rude I’ll never play here again drive the extra 30 min and play in Palm desert they never disappoint unlike Morongo
Slow play
I stoped playing this course due to the 5-6 hr rounds
Have it another shot and the rounds still take forever. No one police’s play, not uncommon to have 2-3 groups ahead of you at some of the tee boxes
Worth the Challenge
Wind made tuff course a monster.
Traps need attention. Many in hitting zones- clever design feature.
Bring some extra balls for the golf gods.
What happened? Far inferior to the past
I have played the Morongo courses many times over the past dozen years, but this is the first time I've played it since the beginning of Covid 4/5 years?). The pro Shop, cart and starter staff were excellent, but other than that, very disappointing. The course conditioning was far poorer than when I played in the past and the encroaching housing changed the ambience of the course a great deal. We teed off the 5th tee an hour and fifteen minutes after we teed off the first - a pace for a 5:35 round. The two groups in front of us (maybe others too) quit so the round got faster after 8 or 9 holes but was still slow.
All in all a disappointment returning there after several years. As I play there while staying in Palm Springs and the time to drive, I won't go back.
A Course with Potential
My wife and I are staying in Palm Desert and we were looking for courses that may be a little lighter on the wallet and so we found Morongo. We thought it would be associated with the Casino, but it actually owned by the Morongo tribe.
The course has a great layout, and could be a really nice course if they can get the front nine fairways in shape. the front nine is in poor shape, and we were debating if we wanted to continue with the back, but the back nine, is actually in pretty good shape.
The layout of the course could be great once the fairways are good, and the water hazards fixed up, and I would look forward to playing again when/if they ever get there. It looks as if they are working on some infrastructure, and some housing, and the carts are new, so we are hoping that the fairways are next.
If the course gets it all together, I would rate this as a diamond in the rough, right now, it's just kinda rough.
Fun Day With Old Friends
It's a great course. Our only disappointment was they called us in at 4:30 after finished 15 holes. We had another hour of sunlight and could easily have finished.
We paid the twilight rate.
It would have been nice to know this ahead of time. Maybe it was on the sight; however, we have played there in the past and this was the first time it happened.
