Morongo Golf Club at Tukwet Canyon offers two 18-hole championship courses, the Legends and the Champions. Nestled in the foothills of the San Gorgoncio and San Jacinto Mountains, both courses have a scenic landscape that offers stunning views. The Legends Course is the newer of the two but it provides just as challenging a game as the Champions, which is a PGA Tour favorite. The Legends twists and turns through the winding elevations, demanding accuracy throughout. Like its sister golf course, there are numerous steep-lipped bunkers treacherously placed along the greensides. The rough is also tall, thick, and unforgiving. The tricky par-3 fourth hole is played from the highest point on the property. From the tee, the canyon seems more intimidating but the wildly sloped green is where the challenge begins.

General

No marshall; 3-some in front were beginners w/ no sense of pace of play or golf etiquette. Greens way too high & slow; not a fun day on this course.

Weeds and Debris

Pathetic. What was one of the best 36 hole public facilities in SoCal has been reduced to a neglected shell of its former self. Uncaring shop staff. Weeds everywhere. Walkways and steps full of debris, unswept in weeks.

I hope the present tribe owners sell it off ; new ownership needed.

Far from what it used to be….

This course used to be so nice. Now it’s not worth $40 for a round. I’d say $30 due to the awful conditions from the tee to fairway. The greens were okay but everything else needs serious work. If Prop 27 passes I can imagine conditions will worsen.

Disappointing and complete waste of money

I understand there was a ton of rain but this course was unplayable. The back nine was cart path only and the fairway wasn’t mowed. The fairway was basically the rough. It was so backed up that we couldn’t even finish the back 9.

We had a 1020 tee time and caught up to the 9:09 tee time on the tee box. None of this was disclosed till after we purchased the round. Usually a great and challenging course but the communication was lacking and I won’t play here again.

Poor course conditions

The fairway grass was almost as long as the rough. The greens were in good shape. Tee boxes were chewed up and uneven.

Nice Layout

We hit the Legends side about once every other month...both of us are 16 handicap so Champions back nine is out of the question for us....course has hit end of summer doldrums and fairways are really showing the stress..greens are OK, My only complaint is the sand traps have been bad for over a year now.....it is becoming very noticeable that the Indians that own the course have lost interest and must be running a real tight budget on course maintenance. Just wish they had the interest the tribe that owns Eagle Falls out in Indio have in their course.

Most overhyped course

Very slow play. Usually tournaments going on. Staff just going through motions. Pace is horrible here, one of worst in South California.

Always a good time

The course is an overall fair shape for summer. There are many dry spots, the greens are rolling at about a nine and tea boxes are in fair to good shape. Staff is friendly and helpful. The cost of replay was $35 at time of this review which is a bit high.

Course condition is terrible

The greens were great, rolled true but needed to be read correctly. Created a challenge. The holes are challenging with many doglegs and blind shots along with bunkers in the middle of the fairways that you need to navigate around. However the fairways were in terrible shape. Dead grass in many areas, uneven and very bumpy, as if it hadn’t been mowed in a long time. The bunkers were pure raked mud, there wasn’t a grain of sand in any of the bunkers. A number of bunkers had water setting in them which would have made them unplayable.

I would hope that the Morongo Indian Tribe would want to keep this golf course in immaculate condition but I guess they don’t care about it.
