Quit Crying
I read a lot of these reviews and do people live in reality? This is not the PGA Tour and you are not going to get Pebble Beach when you play. Yes! These guys have some greens with issues. 6 greens? People come on here to exaggerate. Boxes-excellent, fairways excellent, rough excellent bunkers excellent, pro shop and guys outside excellent, views I mean the best. Id say they have 4 greens with issues, there are a couple with spots and thats if you are hard pressed to look. The back side of the course except for 10 I think is beautiful shape. People rant and complain. There are gonna be plush times and down times. Roll the rollercoaster. Keep pushing Glen Ivy and dont listen to these up tight people who probably shot a 100 and complain.
Good course with horrible greens
The good
The course itself is great. Layout. Scenery and amenities
Hole #18
Fairways
The bad
Some tee boxes are in rough shape but tolerable
The ugly
Greens. All greens are plagued by some disease or fungus and are in a state of repair. Crab grass growing, sanded, and a lot of them simply not worth putting on. We picked our balls on probably 6 out of 18 greens and didn’t even bother
It’s a shame to see otherwise a lovely track to be this bad. Right now it’s only good for practicing your tee shots and approach shots.
Greens are unplayable
Played twilight for 40 bucks thought it would be a good deal. The greens are in such bad shape most of them are unplayable. Sanded over, missing grass, crabgrass on green. Sad because rest of course is really well maintained. This place has so much potential if it fixed their greens.
Very nice to play for all levels of players. Tee boxes, fairways n greens were very well maintenance, will continue to play here.
Overall in very good condition
We haven’t played this course in almost a year because of the condition of the greens. We tried it again- and overall the course was in very good condition. Fairways have very few bald spots. Bunkers are pretty consistent. A few of their greens are still struggling- but overall nice shape.
Our only issue was the snack bar at the turn. The GPS advises you to call the snack bar on Hole 7 to order. We tried three separate times to call- no one ever answered. When we arrived at the turn- no one was inside. We waited more than 5 minutes for the lady to show up. We ordered simple hot dogs- and waited an additional 15 minutes for our food. Because of our delay- we had to allow 2 other groups to pass us.
They need to fix this problem- especially when it’s over 100 degrees on the course !!!
Greens are a mess
Love this course layout! It’s fun, challenging and fun to play. The course hired a new course manager a few months back and the fairways are getting much better. The major issue is there are 4-5 greens that are just a mess and unable to putt on them. That is about 30% of the greens that are unplayable. Also they have nice sand in the bunkers but it’ seems that they need to put a roto tiller in there to fluff them up. When they water it makes them like hitting of concrete. I really hope the new superintendent can get Glen Ivy back to the way it was in 2020
Going backwsrds
I stopped playing here for over one year do to the conditions of the greens. I have played it three times since returning, and two weeks ago everything was on the mend and playing conditions were vastly improved.
Now, they have list their greens again, so I will not be playing again until I hear that the greens keeper has reversed this ugly trend.
SOLID
I am here to let you know that I played this again and this course is just a Gem. YES! All courses have issues and this course has Always had issues with one hole in particular. Hole #5. I talked to a guy in the Pro Shop and heard of all the things done to this hole over it’s tenure. Im not going to judge that one hole with the rest of the golf course. I can see the work done and the improvements. Boxes, Fairways and greens are good-great. Back 9 is in Amazing shape with some of the best views. Stop bad mouthing this course because of a hole and give it its rightful and well deserved praise for bringing this course to where it is now.
Glen Ivy Golf Club
I played this course about a year ago and it was a good experience for me and my friends.
This time several golfers made comments about how the greens were in fair to poor condition.
I found that the greens appeared to have been recently punched with several sand spots on your putts. The back nine par 3 {#16 I think} is under repair. According to the company doing the work is the hole is going to have more grass / fairway added.
Golf holes #17 & #18 Very challenging and exciting to play!!
It’s Baaaaaaaaaaaaack!!
Night and Day from a Year ago. On Southern California Golf Community I heard it was Back. This New group who took over is doing a great job. Pro Shop what a great staff. Tee Boxes were 8/10 (people sand your divots), fairways 8/10, rough 7/10, greens 7/10 and POP 10/10. The Views are unmatched. They still have room for improvement but they are definently heading in the right direction. Thank You for bringing this GEM back to life!!! They also have a driving range I believe is open into the night. There is a new putting green that Just opened up (what I was told) and still needs work but like everything else they are making major improvements. I have no problem paying green fee’s knowing its going back into the course. KUDDOS to you Glen Ivy.
I Would Recommend Playing here With a Caveat
The course is definitely returning to its old shape. The fairways are tight and in great shape. The rough is green, but inconsistent in places. The greens aren't as bad as they were previously, but aren't quite there yet. The green speed is definitely increasing and they run fairly smooth. The putting green is in horrible shape, so you can't really warm up for your round. The course is worth playing now, but not at $70.00. I paid $55.00, and thought that was fair for the overall conditions. You can tell that management is finely realizing what a great course this can be, with just little work. As always the staff were extremely friendly and helpful.
Keep hoping it will get better
Pre-pandemic this was one of the better tracks around. But they have struggled the last couple years. Old management has seemed to have run this track in the wrong direction, and let it get worse when they found out they were going to be taken over by JC Golf. The greens have had their share of issues the past year or 2, especially on the front 9. On this day, they seemed to have gotten a little better than a couple months ago, but still need some work. The recent rains have left the fairways damp and muddy in many spots. One employee also said a irrigation pipe had busted and not repaired. And they're currently somewhat overgrown and long with different varieties of grass, making them difficult to hit off of in spots. And the pace of play was bad on this day, 5 1/2 hours for 18. Tee times were running about 15 minutes behind on this day due to a small tournament. Marshalls were out, but didn't seem to care much about the tournament slowing things to a crawl. Talking to some of the course employees the last couple rounds, they seem to be happy about the new management in place and hopeful that this course will finally turn the corner and become the track it was pre-pandemic. Let's hope so!
Beautiful course
Hidden Gem, tucked back in the canyons.
Greens were really nice! Once they dried out, they became fast. Definitely coming back again!
Not worth the money.
My wife and I are in the LA Are from Texas and decided to play Glen Ivy.
After paying $99 per person we were very disappointed. The lost almost all greens and fairways earlier this sommer and it is in bad shape. Give it a year and maybe it will be better.
Sad that that are charging $99 for what they have but I guess they are trying to make up for their earlier losses.
Go elsewhere. Not worth the money
