Nice Early Round
Weather was cool at the crack of dawn. Still dew on the fairways on the front 9. On the back 9 course picked up and speed and distance did as well.
Sierra Lakes
Rode the Blues (71.1/124/6435) for 36 holes. Started @ 745 a.m., finished @ 4:45 p.m. with about 30 minutes between rounds. POP moved well, minimal waiting in the a.m. playing with Chuck, Dave and Bruce. Played at our own pace in the p.m. playing with David. Overcast, calm and warm made for very nice playing conditions.
My first time playing here. Wide tree lined fairways set on rolling hills surrounded by upper middle class home with mountain back drops creates a nice visual.
Tees lush and very well maintained.
Bermuda fairways mostly lush and played firm, allowing for lots of roll.
Rough was deep enough to be penal. Sometimes difficult to find you ball unless you were close to it.
Sand traps the weak link, mediocre. Too think, lukewarm endorsement is that they usually played better than they looked.
Large Greens rolled well @ medium speed. Receptive to holing irons, numerous irons/pitches stopped right beside their ball marks.
Basic carts, no GPS. No on course services. Friendly pro shop and starter. Adequate range on mats. Course is generally lush and very green, firm fairways and receptive greens. Highly recommended for the immediate area.
Beautiful course!
I've played here quite a few times and the course conditions have never disappointed me. The fairways at Sierra Lakes are first class! Eventhough the fairways are very wide, make sure you land in the fairway, the rough can elevate your score.
Monitor Pace of Play
We had a very enjoyable round . We were paired with 2 of the nicest young men we've ever been paired with. Unfortunately the 2 groups in front of us were highly inconsiderate. The combination of extreme heat and excessive alcohol consumption proved incomprehensible. They were hitting multiple balls on every hole, not just from the tee boxes but everywhere. Not one time did a course official or marshall ever appear to monitor what was happening. The course has a lot going for it. Not monitoring pace of play takes away from its overall good qualities.
First time, coming back ASAP.
It was my 1st time playing Sierra lakes and I was pleasantly surprised. The course is in phenomenal condition. The layout is super fun with some wide forgiving fairways and big two tiered greens. There's plenty of scoring potential if you can put it in the right spots. It's beautiful. I'll be coming back as soon as I can. Living in the south bay is a bit of a drive but we'll worth it to get out of the LA golf scene for a round!
Be prepared for a long round!!!
This course plays 5-6hrs which is insane! Places like Trump, Torrey Pines, PGA stadium course play the same time and are far better courses. There needs to be better regulation by the ranger… Will not be coming back.
Great Course - Poor pace of play
Great course but Marshalls don't seem to be able to keep the groups moving at a decent pace of play.
Top course in IE
Always a great experience playing here. The wind in the afternoon adds a nice challenge. Greens and fairways are in great condition for the middle of summer
Course Comments
I've played at Sierra Lakes for many years, thought this was my first visit since the beginning of the pandemic.
The course is in great condition and the staff are as friendly as I remember. I understand starters Ron and Deb are still at Sierra Lakes, though neither was on duty on July 4th. I did not visit the restaurant so I don't know if my friends Danny or Nicole are still there.
As far as amenities, early morning food service has always been lacking.
Another negative is being forced to make reservations through GolfNow for a minimum of two players. that is not at all a customer-friendly processl.
