Best course around for the money
It had been years since I played here last. Having played a couple other courses in the area recently, I was impressed with the condition of the fairways and greens. There were 2 tournaments ahead of us so play was VERY slow for a Monday. I ordered a breakfast burrito before my round. While it was really good, I think it got me sick as I had to leave the 17th tee in a mad dash to the clubhouse for the bathroom! Overall, I was glad I came back here and will again soon… although I probably won’t get another burrito.
6 hour golf game
It took 6 hours to finish the game, cart lady showed up once only.
Pace of play
6 hours round from Saturday afternoon. Five some in front of us driven golf cart across the green par 3 hole#4. We called Marshal but results it the same. 2 players was left from my group earlier from hole#7.
Slow play killed the day
We teed off at 1 pm on a Saturday afternoon. 2 hours later we were in line behind two other groups still waiting to tee off on #7. I tried to call the pro shop but never got a real person to answer the phone. The wait was long enough that I was able to walk back to the pro shop to tell them about the situation and still be back at the tee in time for my shot. It took us another hour to play holes 7-9 for a 3 hour front nine. I had commitments in the evening that necessitated stopping after 9 holes. My schedule could have handled a 5 hour round (although that's still too long), but not a 5.5-6 hr round.
The staff in the pro shop offered a rain check, but since I live 500 miles from here and don't come to Southern California often, this was not an acceptable remedy. I was told that there were no other options and that if I didn't take a rain check, there was nothing they could do. There seemed to be little interest on the staff's part in turning a guest's negative experience into a positive one.
The course itself, at least what we were able to play, was fun and in reasonably good condition. I would come here to play again except for the unacceptably slow pace of play, the lack of efforts to speed up that slow pace, and the inability of the staff to provide an acceptable remedy to having to quit a round because of that slow pace. There are a lot of golf courses in the LA area. I will be choosing a different one next time I'm here.
Tourney play
Range could use some renovating. That mats and balls are very worn. And I wish that there was some type of disclaimer letting players know that there is a 42 person tourney going out in front of your tee time. But that could be on GolfNows end. Not really sure but I’m tired of getting out behind large groups. Golfing these days is ridiculous.
