Nestled in the foothills of eastern Ventura County, Tierra Rejada Golf Club is known for its picturesque setting and stunning views. The club overlooks the Reagan Presidential Library. Tierra Rejada is unique in that it offers a formidable test for low handicappers from the championship tees but it is also accessible to mid and high handicappers thanks to the Players Course. The 5,600-yard Players Course is a "course within a course" that was designed to keep the game fun for golfers who may not be looking for a tough test. Even though it may be shorter, both golf courses still provide a challenge. There are plenty of ups and downs throughout thanks to the rolling hills and there are a variety of hazards coming into play including water and strategically placed bunkers.

Challenging Course & Staff

The course is really difficult requiring the extreme shot direction. Missing the fairway will cause losing a ball so play with extreme caution. Green is as challenging as Fairway showing multiple up & down slope.

However, staff is very challenging as the course. They are simply RUDE. If you want to play the couse, minimizing contacts with the staffs is MUST.

A day with Steve

The pace of play was smooth. People were friendly. The weather was great! We had fun. I lost the match! It was good spending the game with my friend on a very good facility. Highly commendable!

Tough course with great views!

Fun course. Lots of elevation changes and picture worthy views. Very challenging front 9. The back 9 seems much easier once you get to it. More of a course management type course so not necessary to hit driver on a lot of holes. Very important to hit it in the fairways because a lot of holes are narrow off the tee. Definitely would be easier to play a 2nd time since you will know how to approach all the doglegs/elevation changes.

Challenging and scenic course

Here are the pros and cons of Tierra Rejada. First of all, it is an 18 hole regulation course, not 9. It can be very difficult for beginner to medium golfers, due to forced carrys on many holes. But they have five sets of tee boxes, so play the appropriate one for your skill level. The course is beautifully laid out through canyons, barranca on the first 11 holes. Starting with hole 12, it is more traditional. The downside is that they really cram the golfers on the course on the weekends. A plus 5 hour round while waiting on every tee box is the norm, despite their protestations that this is unusual. If you can, play this course during the week. It is much more fun when you can play it in four hours.

Tierra Rejada Review

Course condition was very good considering winter months (better than most other courses in area). Great views from the elevated tees. I would recommend the course (weekdays) using golfnow for lower rates!!

A fun and challenging course

The fairways were a little chewed up and the bunkers needed to be worked. (Hard as rock)
It's a beautiful setting, with some awesome hilltop tee shots. The front 9 is very challenging, while the back 9 is more forgiving. It is definitely a course worth playing.

This course is having maintenance now and only the front nine holes were open

I was expecting to play all eighteen holes, but due to work on the course I was only able to play the front nine (twice). I would have liked to have known this prior to my reservation, as I was surprised to find out at the course.

They are really marketing this course

Front 9 is very tough. Some blind shots and forced carries plus crazy dog legs and serious elevation changes. The staff is doing an excellent job of marketing the course. I like the driving range. All grass and plenty of room and nice little short game area. Plus they have Roger Gunn teaching there. One of the very best in California. Back 9 is way easier. Food is great. They even do some live music on Thurs and Friday. And feature some country club style dinners and Fri and Sat.

First impression

With regards to my overall first impression of the course, I considered it to be a very good experience, good greens and fairways. However, my only complaint, which is an important factor, is the layout of the course. I felt the design had to many blind shots, which would definitely slow down pace of play for mid to high handicap golfer. I believe it is overpriced and I would not pay to play unless I'm receiving green fees at discounted price. In all honesty, I'm not rushing to replay the course; nevertheless, I simply felt it was just to much of a "Mickey Mouse" course due to all the blind shots.

Great challenge; severe elevation changes; very nice greens.

Played on a Sun morning: Greens rolled very nicely, fast but not ridiculous. Most holes pretty straightforward, what you see is what you get: A couple had such severe elevation changes, that playing a few times would definitely help. Greens were generally very nice - rolling and smooth. The #17 hole was kind of goofy - short par 3 with severe drop, then steep slopes on the green. Had a great day.

Interesting layout, nice pace of play, good shape

This was my second time playing the course and it is a great advantage to know where to place your tee shot. I especially enjoyed the challenge of the front side with its spectacular vistas and interesting layout. The course rewards shotmakers that can control their distance as well as their driver placement. This is not an easy course for those that cannot fly the water or traps that guard the front of many greens. Greens were in great shape as were the fairways. Tee boxes were a little sandy but O.K. Although we had to wait on several tee boxes we still played as a foursome in under 41/2 hours. Overall, a very rewarding golfing experience.

Billy Goat Course

Greens and fairways are in good shape if you can hit them. It is a challenging target golf track with hillsides for fairways. If you hit it dead straight you can score and have fun here. If not, bring extra balls and prepare for a score of 110 if you count up all the lost ball and hazard penalty strokes. They probably have a lucrative second hand golf ball business on the side...
