Avery Ranch Golf Club is a part of the Avery Ranch residential community, 20 minutes northwest of town, that was carved and blasted out of the rocky ranchlands along Brushy Creek. This historically significant area was once home to Indians and robbers, who were drawn to this beautiful setting thick with dense oaks, meandering creeks and abundant wildlife.

The golf course was designed by former Jack Nicklaus designer Andy Raugust, who literally had to use dynamite to blast rock out of the landscape for five holes. His design features two potential signature holes on each nine.

No. 7 doglegs left, and features two scenic carries -- one off the tee and another on the approach. The hole is rather short, providing the chance to be in good position for this most spectacular approach shot on the golf course. Staring at the multi-level green, you’ll notice the huge rock wall fronting the green, the large bunker to the right, and the native cacti to the rear.

Avery Ranch Golf Club's 13th is sure to be considered one of the best par 3s in the Austin area. The 161-yard par 3 features water on the right side, impressive, towering oaks in the back, and a unique ridge of rocks to the right of the green. The reasonable distance makes it a fun challenge, and the hole features a bail out area in case of a miss

Good Course

Avery is a very nice course and always friendly staff. can play very long but has several tees for all players. The greens had been punched a couple of weeks ago and wished they would tell you that on Golfnow but rolled pretty good. A little expensive, but every once and awhile its nice to play.

Usually better

I have played this course a number of times and usually things go well. On my round this time the pace of play was very slow and there were no marshals out on the course to address. I love the course and chalk this up to just a bad day where they had more golfers than expected but was disappointed to only be able to play 9 holes even after paying for 18 because I didn't have 6 hours available to play a round of golf.

BAD EXPERIENCE

Played the 8:06 teetime and got to the first green that might as well have been a beach. Yes aerification is neccessary but there was no word of this when we booked the teetime and when we checked in the proshop. There was no aerification alert on golfnow nor on the website. We paid $70 and was told absolutelty to how horrible the greens were. Not possible to putt from any distance. "Richard" in the proshop was extremely rude and when we quit after 9 holes he wasnt surprised but didnt mind charging us the $70 when we checked in. I will never go back to Avery Ranch again becuase of the staff and management. The course is nice but cannot help the fact that management does not care about the daily fee customer.

Good Course…but...

Avery is a great course, but when they sand all the greens and it lasts for two weeks, they should lower there rates. The greens were in pretty bad shape and will be that way for a week or so…..great facility, great staff, but this time of year it's pretty expensive to play on a course where all the greens are in bad shape.

course conditions

If Golf Now is gonna pair up with golf courses, they should get some feed back from those golf courses. I.e. reseeding greens & tee boxes, or aerating the greens. Avery Ranch is one the top courses in my area and when I booked it for a 815 tee time on a weekend ($49), I thought I had an awesome deal. Well needless to say on the first green sand was dumped onto the greens so much that you can write your name in it.

Bad greens

I booked this course through GolfNow, so their wasn't a way of knowing, but the greens were reminiscent of a beach. Their was around 1/4" of sand on the greens, which was not enjoyable at all. I understand this has to be done, but I wish it would be relayed through GolfNow.

Friday pm

Very challenging course for the average golfer. Teed off at 3:30 so was not expecting to finish but course was open and able to finish by 6:45 so pace was terrific. Combination of twilight fee and pace of play made this very enjoyable.

Good Time

I enjoy this course. Beautiful day but was probably a better day to be sailing than playing golf due to the winds. Course was in good condition and greens rolled well for me. Pace was great.

Still tough

Avery is a very nice course. They did not overseed anything but the greens, but it was still in pretty good condition.

Avery challenges not only to get past all the obstacles and water, but when you finally reach the green, the real trickery begins !! Nearly all the greens have multiple compound slopes - many of which are pretty steep.

Bring plenty of extra balls......

NEW YEAR'S EVE DAY

I enjoyed the round and remembered how difficult some of the hole could be like number 8 and 9. I love the layout on the front 9. The play was really slow on the back 9 and there was no Marshall to come around to hurry the groups playing slow. My friend Edward had never played before and thought the course was nice. The lady in the club house was a long time employee and remembered me of when i use to work there. She was very professional and treated us with kindness. Also Brian who is also a great long time friend and employee there.
Of course Brent is still there and as the same of when I worked there is still the same self centered jerk who only treats those with money with professionalism and forgets that the hardwork of veterans is the reason he has a job to come to everyday. Aside from him, that is one of the best golf courses t play in the spring and summer but the rates are way to high. Delaware Springs in Burnet is just as beautiful and the staff is amazing to everyone that plays there and the rates are always awesome. A military discount is always given too!
Don't let Avery Ranch fool you when they host a military play day, they only do it for the publicity and the cost is way to high.
Get rid of Brent and bring in someone with a cheerful attitude, great customer service, and professional treatment of every player and that course will prosper even more.

It was good, but I expected it to be great...a bit disappointed

It's a nice course. It has some memorable holes, but also some "blah" holes. We saw a lot of deer from holes 3-9, who didn't seem scared of people. The starter was a very intense, old man, with an accent that seemed perhaps Scottish. He called our group to the tee 10 min before our tee time, and was angry when I didn't respond to him. I couldn't understand him! I thought he was calling someone else's name. Also, he may want to actually walk up to and ask the people on the range if they are the person he is looking for, rather than screaming himself hoarse next to the tee where no one can hear him. Anyway, the $1 first beer after the rd, on a patio with a nice view is cool. The fairways are very thin, and you'll struggle hitting irons unless you're Boo Weekley. Greens were pretty good, not overly fast but not too slow, probably 10.5 on the stimp.

The course is great! Bring your bug spray for the mosquitos:)

Fairways were pristine and the greens rolled great. Enjoyable round. Challenging par 3's. The only reason i gave it 4 stars was because of the mosquitos. From Holes 12-18 have your bug spray ready (lol). i realized that we had recent rains but the fact remains: they were swarming. Don't let it stop you though. The course will make up for the slight inconvenience.
