About
Designed by Steve Smyers, Cheval Golf and Athletic Club's (previously known as Cheval Country Club) mature and meticulously maintained course meanders through 860 acres of elegantly designed development property. Cypress trees abound on this course along with native Florida wildlife including deer, alligators, otters, eagles, wading birds and more. Cheval is one of the area's most prestigious semi-private clubs and offers 18 holes of championship golf. Precise shot placement is required to avoid the 108 bunkers and water hazards that lurk on every hole. A large practice facility includes target greens, distance markings, a practice greens-side bunker, a practice fairway bunker, large putting green and separate pitching green.

Good Layout
Course has a pretty good layout and was in decent shape. Greens were pretty slow and bumpy unfortunately. Pretty solid track for the money.

Very nice course
One of my favorite courses in Tampa area. Only negative the greens were a little slow.
Very nice Track
The layout here was pretty good. Very challenging for me since my draw is very heavy and a lot of my shots were dancing along the out of bounds line. The greens rolled pretty true. There was a little crab grass growing on fringes on greens in areas, but the fairways were trimmed but don’t land in the rough unless you have your ball on a string.
Excellent course. Always in very good condition. Never had a bad round there even when my score is in triple digits.
Great layout
This is my first time playing Cheval, and I enjoyed playing this challenging course with some unique holes. The conditions were ok, course was soft and greens were slower than I expected. The layout itself contains a lot of doglegs which can easily turn into layups if you do not get the right angle into from your tee shots. Playing the correct tee is key here, you'll notice soon enough when you hit a good drive and it doesn't clear the doglegs to give you a clear approach. I would like to play the course again with some firm / faster conditions.
Nice
Pace of play was good. We were paired with another twosome, which didn't seem necessary considering it wasn't crowded. Overall, nice course. It was somewhat under what I was expecting, but fair with the golfnow discount.
Good value and fast play
I’ve played Cheval many times and enjoy the layout and challenge of the course. It has been a bit wet but the course handles the water well. I really appreciate the ranger keeping groups moving. It makes the round enjoyable rather than waiting to play.
Would like to see the club improve its practice range. LO
Find another
19th hole the best part of the place. Eady layout. Greens have good grass but slow. Fairways ok too but if u are not in the fairway it's weeds. Several tee boxes are bare.
Average course
The course is definitely being neglected as evident from the fairways. The layout is good and definitely challenging. Just wish the course was in a better condition for the price
